“Someone is paying attention… let's get the fuck out of here.”
We drove back to the hotel and went our separate ways coming in through a side entrance. Blood was coating our clothing and probably would have scared every single person in sight if we’d come in the front.
Chapter 28
Diamond
Positive.
My mouth had gone dry. It felt like giant fluffy white cotton balls had been stuffed inside of my mouth and throat. I had tried spitting but my mouth was extremely dry. It was as though I was now incapable of producing spit.
There was no way in hell, I’d read this right. I’d kept two of the test that Trey had bought at the pharmacy once three had come up negative.
I had only peed one of them for a damn joke.
You know?
Because there was no way that Thierry’s little swimmers had invaded my body and caused life to grow there.
But that second one…
That second one had said that some shit had happened and that Thierry’s DNA and my DNA had possibly started a band together and something was growing in me.
And let me just tell you, I was not laughing. I was not amused.
So much for the joking part.
Picking the light blue and pink cardboard box up, I’d flipped it over and squinted to read the directions printed on the side. Two pink lines meant pregnant, and one line meant nothing.
Tossing the box into the hotel sink, I let out a frustrated sigh. It rang in my ears as I glared at the little pink and white applicator. The goddamn thing had dared to make my life difficult once again. Just when I had started to come up for air, a pregnancy test had knocked me beneath the waves.
Bracing myself against the sink, I stared at my reflection. I could see my mother there just a little bit. My brown skin looked a little flush, and my eyes looked a little tired.
I hadn’t exactly been eating all that well, to begin with. The stress of my daddy dying and planning his funeral in a matter of days had left me with not much of an appetite.
So, when does one tell their husband she’s knocked up?
The thought occurred to me that children had never come up between Thierry and me. When would we have mentioned it…in between the marriage set up and the back shots I said I’d never wanted to get from him? And damn, he was good at giving back shots and fucking my brains out.
“Diamond, you here?”
Thierry’s voice rang like a bell through the hotel bathroom. My eyes grew wide and I began to scramble. There was no way I was about to tell him that I was expecting now.
Shoving everything beneath the white marble counter, and planning to retrieve it later for destruction, I replied. “In the bathroom, be out in a second.”
My fingers ran through my hair. It was fluffier than usual because Trey and I had walked on the beach earlier. Forcing a smile, I walked out to greet my husband.
“Hey…oh my God…!!!!!”
Thierry’s white shirt was covered in blood. It was everywhere and there were cuts marring his face. It looked like he had been to war and back.
I went to him and began to inspect.
“You should see the other guys,” he murmured.
“Should I ask?”
“You’re my wife…there are no secrets.”
