“I’m a lady…I would never tell you if I did,” Diamond hopped out of the bed and went into the bathroom.
I heard the shower come on and fought the urge to follow behind her. Instead, I found my cellphone and found a million calls from Enzo.
“Are you alright?”
“We’re fine, I brought Diamond home immediately,” I replied.
There was a sound of relief on the other end and I heard Enzo tell Treyanna that we were fine.
“Who do you think it was?... Talia?”
“I don’t fucking know…but it was a warning shot, otherwise we’d be dead. I don’t trust anyone right now,” I looked over my shoulder to make sure that my wife wasn’t in earshot. “Including Diamond’s uncles. They’re not too happy that an I-talian is in charge.”
Enzo fumed on the other end. “True. What’s our next move.”
“That’s why I’m calling… let's have a chat with the other Dons. I want to open up a truce. We’ll go from there.”
“Where am I setting this up for?”
“Diamond mentioned she wanted to go somewhere warm…set this up for Miami. New York would be too hostile. And it gives me the chance to see my wife in a bikini. I do not want Talia to know about this meeting. I want this done next week. Oh…and loop dad in, he hasn’t been answering my texts.”
“I’ll make it happen, brother,” Enzo hung up.
Diamond was just coming out of the bathroom, dripping and naked wet. The urge was stirring in my loins again but she did need rest and my body could use a shower as well.
“How do you feel about Miami?” I asked.
She lit up.
“It's been a while since I’ve been. Why?”
“I have business there next week. I want you to come with me.”
“But we’re getting the Deuce squared away…”
“It will be here when we get back. We need a break from Atlanta, both of us.”
She smiled, easing up on her tiptoes and kissing my mouth. “Agreed. But separate hotel rooms. I don’t want you thinking that I suddenly like you just because my daddy left you my inheritance.”
“Of course not,” I kissed her back. “Why don’t you put on some Golden Girls, and get some food delivered. We’ll stay in bed the rest of the day and relax. I’m going to go shower.”
“I’d like that,” she admitted.
She went to work stripping the bed of sheets and I disappeared into the bathroom. My wife was vulnerable now and I wanted to soothe her not put her in distress but we needed to discuss what was going on.
I hadn’t forgotten a random shooting had occurred at her father’s funeral.
We needed to go over any and all enemies because now that I was fully in charge…I would kill anyone who got in my way.
Chapter 26
Diamond
I was on the Miami scene and loving it. It was just what I needed. A break from Atlanta and all the shenanigans that had been happening there. The weather was a delicious seventy-four to eighty degrees. Simply put, I was in heaven and I loved it.
My cellphone started to ring and I saw that it was Nautica calling for the third time today. Even with my daddy’s death, I still didn’t like her that much. However, I did understand that she was human and hurting. And that like it or not, my brother would be growing up without a father.
“Hi, Nautica.”
