“Not the Italian place,” he says quickly, reading my expression.
“Good.” I don’t want to go back there. Ever.
I know I had a lucky escape and things could have been so much worse the night the van crashed through the window. But what hurts me the most, is that when I later found out the full details of what actually happened, Travis and I ended up having a huge fight. It wasn’t so much the fact he sent me away. It also wasn’t the fact that he didn’t come with me. It’s the fact he killed not one, but two men, and every sick, twisted part of me was terrified.
Terrified because it made me love him even more. That’s so wrong to say. But when you look into the eyes of the person you love, and they confess something likethat, for youand for the things they love the most… well, the intense feeling of love mixed with fear is overwhelming.
I hate him for it.
Hate the way I love that he would do anything for me and his family—Mick and Janette and the club. Hate the way that he would fight to protect anyone of us, even if that meant he didn’t walk away from it.
I hate him for it, because it means the deeper things get with the club, the more likely I am to lose him.
And I can’t lose him.
Ever.
We haven’t talked about marriage or having a family because I know that’s not what he wants. But the longer we’re together, the more I can see him in those roles. The loving husband. The fearsome father.
There’s a sudden tug inside my heart, and I will it to subside.
“Mol?” he says gently, pulling my mind back to him.
“Yeah.” I spring my eyes open, my hands gripping the side of the tub as I sit up a bit.
“They want to take us to the Greek place on the other side of town.”
“Oh no.” I roll my eyes, fixing them on his when he’s silent.
“Not it,” we say in unison, again breaking out into laughter together.
That’s another thing I love. His laugh.
I don’t hear it enough.
“Ha. It’s your turn this time,” I tell him.
“Oh no, baby. I got us out of the last time.”
“Noooo,” I drag out the word, flicking some bubbles his way, “what youactuallydid was have Dean fake call you before we left. I had to go alone. I’m not fucking stupid, Travis. Plus, when you use all zeros for your phone passcode, it’s pretty easy to go through and check your recent calls.”
His eyebrows perk up. “You spied on me?” His hand is immediately in the water, attempting to tickle me.
“You left me no choice!” I shout on a laugh, as he starts to withdraw.
I grip his wrist, forcing him to stop, leaning over me. “You better be getting in here with me.”
“Oh, Baby Doll.” His hand lowers, cupping my pussy. It’s tender, but I still purr like I could go for round two. “I’m way too big to fit in there comfortably.”
I pout, forcing him to laugh. “You can fit. I’ll lie on top. Or you can smother me. I’d like that too.”
“Are you not sated yet?”
I am. But he is just perfection. “You don’t get to see what I see.” I trail my eyes all over his face then down his chest.
Multiple muscles flex when he moves to sit up straight.
I bite my lip.
