So I do just that. “I’m sorry.”
My words make her suck in another breath. She’s struggling not to cry. “What?” She looks so confused, her eyes filling like puddles.
“I’m sorry,” I tell her again, taking a step closer to her.
Naturally, she backs up in her heels. She then turns her palms to the ceiling, her small bag hanging off her wrist as her shoulders hunch. “For what?” Her voice shakes. “For claiming me when I was dancing with Henry?”
I frown, not wanting to picture another man’s hands on her.
“Or for dragging me to come and watch you beat another man to a pulp? Or,” she drags out the word, “for making me your fucking getaway driver?”
“All of it,” I snap at her. “Except for posh boy. That I won’t apologise for. Ever.”
Mollie insults me by laughing. “You’re fucking ridiculous.” She shrugs her shoulders like it’s nothing that another man wants her.
“Me?” I counter. “Coming from the woman wearing that.” I wave my hand up and down, my eyes trailing over her body. “Did you just wear this tonight as some form of punishment?”
She laughs but it’s twisted. “I didn’t know I would see you!”
That’s true.But. “But you knew you’d see him?”
Her eyes pinch. Her back straightens. “Fuck you.”
“No, fuck you, Mollie. You drive me fucking crazy.” I get my face up in hers, my forehead pressing against the top of her head. This woman drives me insane whilst simultaneously making me feel the most alive I ever have.
My eyes burn into hers. “Did you kill him?” Mollie’s question throws me.Her voice is suddenly no longer laced with venom.
I stand down. The guilt and anger at myself for dragging her in there, overriding me. I was an idiot to do it. “Why does that matter?” I dodge her question.
She pushes against my head. “Because you made me an accomplice.”
Fuck.We didn’t kill him. She isn’t an accomplice to anything that could fall back on her. “You could have run.” I move my head forward a fraction, my eyes falling to her plush lips.
She’s quiet for a second. “You told me not to.”
And that in itself screams volumes. “Will you listen now?” I ask softly, my heart kicking in my chest.
She takes an unsteady breath but remains silent.
I pull back to get a better look at her. “Mollie?”
She’s thinking, her chocolate eyes searching the depths of mine.
Lifting my hands, I cup her face, angling her head back. My fingers curl in the back of her hair, and she tries to suppress a moan.
I move my right hand to her throat, cupping under her chin, my left still firmly in place. How I could throttle her for making my life so fucking complicated and so bloody… full. “Will you listen to me, Mollie?”
She swallows, her eyes dropping to my mouth.
I lick my lips, my heart hammering, my soul on fire.
“Yes,” she purrs, and it’s my undoing.
“Kiss me,” I order.
Without touching me, my hold still firmly in place, Mollie raises to her toes, pressing her lips to mine.
My fingers around her throat flex, forcing me to capture another moan that leaves her.
