J: I see you like old movies. Have any favorites?

L: I like a good film noir and anything with Barbara Stanwyck. She was incredibly sexy.

Not typically my taste, but Stanwyck had some real gems, especially her Billy Wilder movies.

J: How do you feel about Hitchcock?

L: Oh, I do like him too when I’m in the mood.

Hmmm. When could anyone not be in the mood for Hitchcock?

J: Which Hepburn, Katharine or Audrey?

L: Audrey all the way. I LOVE Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

J: Yes, a good one. Although I prefer Sabrina or Roman Holiday. Jimmy Stewart or Cary Grant?

L: LOL, definitely Cary Grant. That kiss scene in To Catch a Thief… yummy.

Not sure I liked the “LOL” response to Jimmy, but we were onto something withTo Catch a Thief.

J: I love that scene.

L: Very hot for its time.

I paused, getting the feeling this conversation was going in another direction. I decided to change the subject and cool it down a bit.

J: So, what do you do for work?

L: Oh, nothing exciting. What about you?

Huh. Dodging the question. Maybe she doesn’t work?

J: I’m an investor, mostly for startups.

L: Sounds interesting. So, I’m assuming your name isn’t RicksCafe1942…

I laughed.

J: No, it’s Justin.

L: Hello Justin, I’m Lexy.

J: Nice to meet you.

L: Like you, I don’t really prefer the whole keyboard thing. I like the intimacy you can only get by meeting in person.

J: I understand completely.

L: There’s an old theater house on Boylston that always shows a one o’clock matinee of a film classic every Sunday. Let’s say we meet, enjoy a film, and then see where it takes us from there?

Movie. No pressure. A good icebreaker. I could do that.

J: Sounds perfect.

L: Great, I’ll see you tomorrow.
