Page 98 of The Revenge You Seek
I wasn't hiding. I was in the campus coffee shop with Ella, Violet, and Micah. But the one-way glass between us meant that I could watch his every move and he had no idea that I was watching as he impatiently searched me out.
It was the tense look on his face that assured me that he'd fall for this little stunt.
I'd dreamed it up in the middle of the night when thoughts of him and the things he whispered in my ear during our sociology class played on repeat in my head turning my body into a raging inferno.
I tried to put as much conviction as possible into my parting words to him because I knew that he would see them as a challenge. There's no way he's going to let me walk away from whatever this is.
He clearly wants something from me. And right now, I need something from him, so I'm more than willing to play him at his own game.
I apply a new layer of gloss, before wiping up any stray makeup from under my eyes and smoothing my hair down.
Thanks to Micah, I managed to find out where the Harrises lived, and as far as I know, Kane lives with them so I headed to their side of town before pulling into a dark layby and setting up my little damsel in distress act.
My heart thunders in my chest as a set of headlights approach.
There's a chance some other creep will pull over and try to help me and I pray to God that there are no good Samaritans out tonight who decide to help me out before Kane arrives.
Thankfully, the car sails straight past and I breathe a sigh of relief.
It's another five minutes before another car appears at the end of the street. Something feels different about his set of lights and I shamelessly tug my skirt a little higher and lower the neckline of my tank.
The car slows as my heart thunders so fast that I wonder if I'm about to pass out.
It's not until I catch the make of the car that I relax a little.
He might be the devil, but it's better the devil you know, right?
The gravel of the layby crunches as his old Skyline rumbles to a stop behind my car.
I suck in a breath when he throws his door open and climbs out.
He's dressed all in black with his hood up over his head. He looks like every woman's worst nightmare when she's alone on a quiet, dark street with no way to escape.
I should be terrified. So why is it that my panties get wetter the closer he gets?
"You must be desperate if you called me to help you," he says, marching right up to me. The light from his headlights illuminating my body and his eyes run the length of me, making my skin burn.
"Dangerous," he mutters. "Maybe I should have left you to be found by some other guy to make use of you."
"You'd let that happen, would you? You'd let someone else touch me?"
He's on me in a flash. He pushes me back against the hood of my car, taking my chin between his fingers.
His cold, hard eyes hold mine. I can almost hear the chemistry crackling between us.
The moment I pull my bottom lip into my mouth, his eyes fall to them and his tongue sneaks out to wet his.
"So?" I taunt, just about able to get the word out with the hardness of his grip.
"What the fuck do you think?"
He releases me a little, allowing me to answer.
"I think that you hate how much you want me," I sass. "You say you want to hurt me, but really deep down in here." I tap against where his black little heart is. "You just want to prove me wrong."
"How's that?"
"You want to show me that I should have chosen you all those years ago."
