He looks to Kane and opens his mouth to say something but then he realizes that Kane isn't alone and his chin drops when his eyes find me.

"S-Scarlett?" he stutters, his eyes narrowing on Kane in question. His shoulders tensing as if he's preparing for a fight and his lips twisting in frustration.

"Excuse us, we're just going upstairs."

"Kane?" he barks, reaching out to grab his arm and stopping us from walking farther into the house.

"Princess?" I turn to look at him. "Top floor, second door on the right. Be ready," he winks at me and I flush from head to toe when Devin turns to look at me once more.

I bolt for the stairs, not wanting to be the object of their attention and needing to get away in case Ezra and Ellis want to join the party.

My stomach flips as I remember his suggestion about him sharing me.

Hell no. I might be up for his wicked touch and evil words but I draw the line at him bringing a friend in to help torture me.

Only, it's not really torture when Kane touches you, is it?

I shake the thought from my head.

I know I should hate the brutal way he touches me, throws me around like a rag doll and the belittling things he says to me, the way he calls me a whore. But I can't find it in me to hate it when all I do is crave more.

The rumble of their booming voices echoes up to me but I don't stop to try to eavesdrop. Something tells me that I wouldn't like what they're discussing. Devin clearly wasn't happy about me being here—if only he knew the truth.

I push through the door Kane directed me to and fall back against it.

My body trembles with nerves. This whole scheme didn't seem so scary before. But now I'm here.

"Fuck," I breathe. "Fuck. Fuck."

My head bangs against the door.

What the hell am I doing?

If they catch me, what will they do to me?

I might be terrified of Victor and what he's capable of, but he's trained every pair of hands under this roof and I know for a fact that they are more than capable of taking out any threats.

And if Victor is right and they're playing him and I expose them.

A violent shiver wracks my body.

They'll kill me if this goes wrong.

I pause for a moment. Does it matter? Do I have anything left to lose?

Images of my family flash through my mind and I talk myself down.

I can do this. Choose the right hiding places and everything will be fine. Come the weekend they'll surely have a party and it could have been any one of the guests who planted the cameras.

It's not until heavy footfalls from the stairs sound out that I push from the door and walk into the room. It's the first time I really see it as well.

The sheets are black—like his soul—the walls are a dark gray and the furniture black, the corners chipped, and the drawers scratched.

I jump a mile when the door opens even though I knew it was coming.

I suck in a deep breath willing my heart to stop racing.
