Page 85 of The Revenge You Seek
Their eyes follow me as I lower myself to the chair and pull my laptop toward me.
“What happened to the book you went for?” Luca asks.
“Couldn’t find it anywhere,” I lie, keeping my eyes locked on my still asleep screen. “Someone must have taken it out.”
“I thought it was a reference only book?”
I shrug. “Who knows, I’ll try another day, ask a librarian if need be.”
They both accept my words, but neither seem particularly convinced but I keep my eyes down and continue with what I can without the book I needed that I'm sure was right there on the shelf.
We spend another forty-five minutes in the silent library before Luca follows the instructions he was given to lock the place up and we head out.
I guess that's just one of the perks of being the most popular guy in college. You can literally get anyone to do anything for you.
When he asks the girl who was working this evening if we could stay late she almost pissed her pants.
It was amusing but I felt for her. I know how intimidating the Dunns good looks and charisma can be.
"I need food," I mutter as Leon opens Luca's passenger door for me. "Thank you," I mouth to him and drop down before he shuts me in and takes the back seat.
"I know just the place," Luca says, starting the car and gunning it from the parking lot and then away from campus.
I breathe a sigh of relief as we leave that building behind. I've no idea if he's still there or even on campus, but I feel good getting away.
"Work up an appetite with all that studying?" Leon asks, poking his head between the two front seats after my stomach growls so loudly they both hear it over the low beats of Yungblud flowing through the speakers.
My cheeks flame once more.
"Yeah, that and I haven’t eaten since lunch."
They both turn their eyes on me, Luca only for a beat as he needs to focus on driving.
"Don't start," I tell them. I've heard the lecture before that I know is on the tip of their tongues. I'm not great with food and routine, hence how I've lost so much weight but as athletes, it's one of the most vital things to them.
Thankfully, Leon sits back without saying anything and other than his slightly too-tight grip on the wheel, Luca keeps quiet too.
I'm more than aware I haven’t been the best at looking after myself, I don't need to be told I look a mess as well.
"What's this place?" I ask as Luca drives toward a building covered in neon lights.
"Best burgers in the county."
My stomach growls once again as he pulls up to the takeout window and orders three of the same meals.
Leon doesn't say a word about his brother taking control so I sit back and let him do his thing.
The second the server hands three paper bags over and the scent of the food fills the car my mouth waters.
He passes them all over to me before driving over to a space to park.
"Trust me, you've never tasted anything like this."
He dives into his own bag, unwraps his burger and dives in.
I'm too fascinated by his enthusiasm to even open my bag.
"I thought you were hungry?" he mutters when he notices I haven’t so much as moved.
