Every once in a while, an innovation comes along that is so revolutionary it makes you wonder how you’ve managed to live for so long without it.
Ten years ago, when we launched the Dreamsaver out of an office sandwiched between a tattoo parlor and a cannabis shop, my mom called me in a panic, worried about how I’d be able to pay back all the money I’d borrowed from her and my dad. I told her not to fret, this was going to work.
But how do you know, my mom asked me.
It’s a gut feeling, I told her.
I knew, deep in my gut, how transformative it would be for so many insomniacs like me to get a full night’s sleep. To feel rested and rejuvenated in as few as five hours. I knew the freedom that would come from being able to control sleep.
The rest, as they say, is history. Our product has saved countless lives, and our customers have told us as much. In my office I keep dozens of their testimonials, some of them handwritten notes, like the one I received from the labor-and-delivery nurse who was afraid she was endangering patients because she couldn’t concentrate at work. You’ve given me my life back, she said.
If helping people get some rest had been the only thing that DI ever accomplished, I would have considered myself lucky. But I’m extremely fortunate to be able to say that we are launching a product that will once again revolutionize sleep.
And today I can tell you that I have that same gut feeling I had years ago.
Not only will our newest Dreamsaver reduce the ratio of sleep to rest, not only will you be able to get the physical and mental health benefits of a full night of sleep on just three and a half hours, but it will also allow you to share your dreams with your family and friends.
Allow me to demonstrate.
[Video screen lights up, a dream begins to play. The dreamer is riding a horse, holding it by the mane rather than a bridle. The trail is rough, and barely marked, but eventually the rider comes out to a green meadow with a waterfall on the right-hand side.]
This is a feed from my own Dreamsaver. I have chosen to make this dream shareable with my wife and children, plus my good friends Angela and David. I’m going to scroll so you can see the comments. “Is that Nova Scotia?” my wife is asking. That’s where we honeymooned twenty-two years ago. It looks like it could be, but in my memory it feels like a place I hadn’t been before.
My friend Angela offers an interpretation. “You’re moving through a rough patch. But your handling of the horse and the lack of bridle suggests you’re doing it without effort.” Very astute.
“Can I go zip-lining there?” And that’s from my teen. [Audience laughs.]
As you can see, users have full control over how little or how much of their dreams can be shown, and to whom.
You can also subscribe to feeds. Those of your friends, or those of a public figure, like your favorite actor or a football player you like. On this screen, you can see that I’m subscribing to Therm X’s feed. I’ve been a fan for years, and it’s nice to see how creative he is, even in dreams.
In a world that so often divides us, our dreams can connect us.
By sharing our dreams we can relate more intimately than ever before. We can understand one another on a level that was previously unavailable to humanity. And that is how I know that this is a product unlike any other, a product that will change forever how we interact with those around us, and allow us to move through life with more grace and empathy.
[Female voice-over starts.]
DreamSocial. Share a dream. Help a dreamer.
