Page 72 of The Devastation You Reap
Gianna's eyes flick to Macie, her smile only widening at the sight of her.
I've never been here with a girl before, unless it's a friend's girl, and Gianna clearly knows it.
"Well, it's a good thing I've got the best table in the place free then, isn't it?"
"Lead the way," I say, gesturing for her to do so.
She takes us to a table right at the back of the restaurant that's hidden in the shadows to give us some privacy before leaving us to look at the menu, not that it's necessary, I already know my order.
"This is on the house," Gianna says when she returns a few moments later with a bottle of wine, and a bowl of olives for us.
"Thank you so much," Macie says softly as Gianna pours her a glass.
Macie turns to me the second Gianna leaves us again and the sparkle in her eyes and the smile on her lips makes my breath catch in my throat.
She's so pure, so beautiful, so innocent. I almost feel bad for how this is all going to end. Almost.
I watch her as she tentatively sips the wine, focusing on her lips as they press against the glass and trying to imagine what they might look like wrapped around my cock instead.
Shifting in my seat to make space for my hardening dick, I reach for her thigh under the table.
"What are your plans for the weekend?"
She shrugs, placing her glass down. "Same as every other one, assignments. You?"
"Not much. I've got a breakfast date in the morning with my little brother."
"Aw, how old?"
"Five."
She studies me for a beat as if she wants to ask more but she swallows down the questions and looks at the table.
I know why. She thinks that by asking me about my family that it'll encourage me to do the same about hers. She's not wrong. It's the reason why I'm here. Well, my reason aside from showing her just how much pain she caused me all those years ago. I'm just hoping I can get a two-for-one deal. Her and her cunt of an uncle who seems to have vanished into hiding somewhere.
Not wanting to let her change the conversation, I dive into a place I know will make her uncomfortable.
"Do you have any siblings?"
"No," she states matter of factly. "My parents died when I was young, as you know, there wasn't really a chance."
"What about after? Who did you live with when they passed?"
Her lips part as something dark passes through her eyes but she shuts it down before I get a chance to read what it is.
"I stayed with my uncle for a while, but he shipped me off to prep school and the staff there pretty much raised me after that."
I know she's only partly telling the truth. Richard Fletcher might have sent her to some fancy prep school but she also spent time at his estate in Miami. I know because I saw her there. She saw me, she just doesn't remember, it seems.
"That sucks."
"Meh, being there alone was better than being with him. Do you have any others or just Luca and the little one?" she asks, spinning it back on me.
I give her the basics about only discovering Kayden's existence recently although I don't dive into any details of who his mother is or what a cheating, disgusting piece of shit our father is. Before moving onto Shane, Chelsea and their baby, Nadine.
Macie sips away at her wine as I talk and I can't help but wonder if she realizes just how much she's drank.
I know from the other night that she's a lightweight but feeling awkward with the family topic of conversation keeps her drinking it nonetheless.
