Page 109 of The Devastation You Reap
My chin drops at his words. “I didn’t say I was in lo—”
“Never said you were,” he interrupts, probably seeing my panic. “But you’re heading in that direction.”
His eyes hold mine, telling me that there’s no point in arguing.
“I can’t help it. When we’re together it’s just… I don’t know. Right, I guess.”
“I’m happy for you.” He smiles softly at me before I look to the other side of the room again at the clock and he chuckles.
The second our professor brings our lecture to an end, I pack up my stuff and race for the door, and the sound of Nate’s laughter follows me, but he doesn’t stop me like I expect him to.
I fly around my room once I’m back, packing everything I could possibly need for the weekend.
I might have lost my mind, but I allowed Charlie to take me shopping last night and bought new lingerie and sexy nightwear. I’m not sure I’ve actually got the confidence to wear it, but I shove it in my bag just in case.
From the moment we met, Leon has brought out a whole new person I didn’t know was hiding within me, for all I know, I might give him a full on fashion show of all my new outfits.
A smile tugs at my lips as I think about how he might look at me. I love it when his eyes darken with desire because of me. It’s the biggest turn on that I can do that to him.
“I hope it’s me that’s putting that smile on your face,” a deep voice rumbles from the doorway.
Spinning around, I find the man himself leaning against my doorjamb watching me.
“How long have you been standing there?” I ask, shoving the last few things into my bag.
“Long enough to see all the lace you just shoved into your bag.”
My cheeks burn with embarrassment, which he must either notice or sense because he marches into the room and holds my face in his giant hands.
“Don’t shy away from me, Red. I can’t wait to see you in every single one of them.”
“I bought them for you,” I confess.
“Fuck, you’re perfect.”
His lips find mine before I can respond and he leaves me breathless as he releases me in favor of picking up my bag and throwing it over his shoulder.
“You ready to hit the road?”
“Sure am. Let’s go.”
I grab my purse and cell and slide my other hand into his before we head out.
“I bought snacks for the journey,” he says, moving the bag that’s on the passenger seat when we climb in.
“You’ve thought of everything.”
“Thought of nothing but this weekend with you all week.”
“Me too,” I whisper.
“Ready to have some fun, Red?”
“Hell yes.”
In seconds his engine revs beneath us and we peel out of the parking lot, putting college and our lives here behind us for a few days.
I sigh in relief as I lower the window and breathe in the fresh air.
