“Well, I’m more than ready to test it out.”
“The fridge is stocked, grab whatever you want to drink.”
My instincts want me to reach for a bottle of Richard Fletcher’s finest whiskey. I can see it proudly displayed in a liquor cabinet on the other side of the room.
Later,I tell myself, instead pulling out a cooled bottle of white wine from the fridge and then quickly locating two glasses as Macie takes the food to the table that sits in front of the floor to ceiling windows that looks down toward the training facility.
“Your uncle’s got some land here, huh?” I mutter, fighting like hell to keep my memories from the forefront of my mind.
“Yeah, it’s insane. I haven’t even seen it all. He bought it after my grandparents died. I got a percentage of the money but he got the majority, he found some loophole to stop me from getting everything my father was rightly owed.”
“Asshole,” I seethe.
“What goes around comes around. One day this will all be mine.”
I raise a brow at her, curious as to what she means by that because she’s never come across as a person who cares about money in all the time we’ve spent together in the past two weeks.
“You want his money?”
“Of course. It’s not for the reasons you might think, though.”
I narrow my eyes at her, wondering once again, what secrets of her own she’s hiding.
“So enlighten me.”
She smiles before putting a forkful of egg fried rice into her mouth.
“Not right now. I thought you had fun things in mind.”
Despite everything, my need to run away from this place as fast as possible and forget all about what happened here, a wave of desire washes through me at the thought of making her mine here.
She might hate him, but as a kid I was under the impression that he doted on her. It’s why he made her keep her distance from us, and sent her to the best school he could find. I’m looking forward to ruining his perfect little niece under his own roof.
“Yeah, baby. I do. But not until you’ve done what you need to do and you can relax.”
She stares at me across the table, probably confused. It’s not like me to wait to take what I want, but this time is different.
I need it to be perfect, and not in the way she’s imagining, I’m sure.
“Okay well, let’s finish this, check the rest of the house and then maybe I should show you my bedroom,” she suggests, her voice is pure lust.
“You got the keys to those locked rooms?”
“Yeah, on the side in the kitchen.”
I glance over wondering how I didn’t see them when I got the drinks.”
“Good, let’s go.” I throw what’s left of my wine back and stand, too impatient to sit here stewing about everything.
“O-okay.” She picks up the final prawn cracker and pops it past her red stained lips. I watch, remembering just how those lips felt around me and I harden, ready to get this show on the road.
“Let’s start with the top floor. We’ll do the locked rooms last because…” A shudder rips through her making me even more curious about those rooms.
“Okay, lead the way.”
I continue trailing her in and out of every room, my eyes scanning everything looking for the information I need.
“So what’s your uncle’s prognosis?” I ask curiously.
