Page 69 of The Alpha's Seer
“When?” a younger voice asks, emotion clogging her throat.
My heart lurches.
These are women, the women kidnapped from the packs.
My breath refuses to leave my chest, and I gasp, trying to breathe.
“I don’t know,” the raspy voice says. “But we won’t ever give up. Even if they kill us?—”
“They’ll never kill us,” the young woman sobs. “The Goddess won’t be that kind.”
“The Goddess?” Another woman hisses. “There’s no Goddess; what Goddess would allow me to get pregnant twice for these vile creatures?”
Oh no.
“I’m telling you; someone will come.” The raspy voice sounds convinced.
“It’s been years, Luna Willow,” another voice says softly. “Maybe we should accept our fates.”
Luna Willow? Who is that?
I listen so hard I barely breathe in case I miss anything.
“Your baby is due soon; please keep calm,” the raspy voice/Luna Willow cautions.
“It’s not my child,” the soft voice says. “It’s theirs.”
Someone cries, and then more women join in.
Light floods the darkness suddenly, so bright I have to protect my eyes. I peek out and see we’re in a cave, and standing at the mouth of it are three men.
Despite the light, I can’t see their faces, but I don’t stop trying. One is tall and looks burned.
The others I can’t see at all.
“Ladies,” the tall one says with a dirty smirk I want to claw from his face.
I feel such hatred for this man, knowing I’ve seen him before. The one that threatened his men was going to impregnate me. Then his eyes move to mine, and I don’t move.
“Oh look, the baby Seer is spying on us.”
I close my eyes and feel the rush of air, my fear twisting out of control until I come to on the ground by the woods, heaving so hard I can’t breathe. Acid burns my throat as I sob, despair owning my body and mind.
Luna Marie strokes my hair and murmurs words of comfort until I open my eyes, turning to her as she looks at me through wild eyes.
“They’re impregnating them. The women.”
Luna Marie claps her hand to her mouth in horror. “No…”
“They’re being kept in a cave,” I say, praying I remember everything. “There are three of them, and one woman is pregnant.” I sob, trying to ignore her voice in my head.
Luna Marie nods and pulls me to my feet, handing me a tissue from her robes. “Here, wipe your mouth. Are you able to walk back?”
I nod, but she still supports me, half striding, half dragging me back to the packhouse before helping me into a chair on the porch.
I’m exhausted.
I close my eyes as my body throbs against the chair’s fabric, my hands curling on the armrests as I wonder why I have this… ability. I don’t want to see women being tortured or held against their will.
