Page 7 of Taking A Chance
“She’s… nice.”
“Cade. Don’t be an ass. You really like her, I can tell.” I’m about to defend myself when I see them out of the corner of my eye. Well, not really. I’ve been watching, waiting for her to return like a pining puppy.
“Shut the fuck up, they’re coming back,” I hiss between clenched teeth.
“I think this one has had enough,” Kat announces as she struggles to keep Petra upright. “I’m going to take her up to her room.” Both Ben and I stand. I put my arm firmly around Petra to take some of the strain from Kat. Well, kinda.
“You’re both staying here?” I ask.
“Yes. Isaac’s thought of everything. He’s far too generous for his own good.”
“Are you and Petra sharing a room?” Strange question, but I have my reasons.
“Are you kidding me?” Kat smirks. “We were more than willing to share, but no, Isaac booked us our own rooms. Looks like that’s going to be a waste of money.” I frown at her, a little confused. “I can’t leave her on her own like this. She’s wasted,” she explains further.
“Why don’t we take her to her room. You can get her…” I wave my hands up and down, gesturing at Petra’s body, “undressed.” I swallow hard at the thought of being the one to strip her. But I’m determined to be a gentleman. “Once she’s settled in bed, I’ll be happy to sit with her.”
“I, mmm, I’m not sure.” Kat looks dubious but also a little tempted.
“Stay, Kat,” Ben interjected. “Cade will keep an eye on her. I was hoping to at least get one dance with you before the end of the night.” When Ben gives her the puppy eyes and pushes out his bottom lip, she concedes.
“Okay,” she sighs. “Help me get her upstairs,” she points at me with her free hand. “And you,” she nods at Ben. “Get the drinks in. I’ll be back in a few minutes.”
“Yes ma’am,” we both reply at the same time.
Once we’ve left Ben at the bar, we take the elevator up to the fourth floor. When the doors slide open, I quickly check that the hallway is clear before I scoop Petra up into my arms. She’s pretty much out of it, but her arms wrap around my neck, her head falling against my shoulder.
“Yuw shmell nicesh,” she slurs, snuggling into my neck. “Ako chlap (like a man).”
“Thank you,” I reply. “I think.” I glance over at Kat, and she’s sniggering.
Kat gets the key card out of Petra’s purse and swipes it. The red light turns to green, so she pushes open the door, stands back, and allows me enough space to walk into the room.
They have left one of the bedside lamps on, so the subtle light is enough for me to make out the layout of the room.
It’s nice. A good size with everything you would expect from a five-star establishment. However, I don’t waste my time mulling over the décor, I head straight to the bed.
I lay Petra down and step back away from the bed.
“Right,” Kat looks at me. I just stand there. “At least turn your back or step out of the room or something while I undress her.”
“Oh, yes,” I nervously scan the room. “The bathroom.” I point to the door.
“Well, go on,” she waves at me when I still don’t move from the spot. “I’ll shout when it’s safe to come out.”
“Yeah, yeah,” I nod as move away into the bathroom, closing the door behind me.
I glance at my reflection in the mirror, and it’s a little distorted. I’ve consumed more alcohol than I usually do. I’m more of a beer and bourbon man, and the champagne has definitely had an effect on me.
I can hear a muffled voice from the other side of the door, and I turn to face it. My mind begins to work overtime, visualising what I might see if it wasn’t for that damn door. Fuck! I bet Petra’s as hot as hell in a bra and panties. My cock thinks so too and starts getting past the semi-hard state that has been present since I first set eyes on her. “Shit!” I breathe as I palm my pants, partly to ease some of the pressure, but also to push my dick into a position where my predicament is less obvious.
The bathroom door opens and Kat raises her eyebrows, catching me with my hands at the front of my pants.
“You can come out now,” she says. “That’s if you’re not otherwise engaged?” I’m sure I hear her snigger, before she turns her back to me and returns to the side of the bed. “She’s out of it.”
“Hopefully she’ll sleep it off,” I add.
“Hopefully,” Kat concurs. “But keep an eye on her for a couple of hours. Just in case.”
