Page 18 of Taking A Chance
“We could all go out together?” I offer, the flutter of nerves take flight in my belly. Or was it his closeness that was getting me all worked up?
“Not happening,” he murmurs against my mouth. “I want you all to myself.” My knees nearly buckle when his lips touch mine, softly at first, but when he increases the pressure, a soft moan resonates from deep within me. He breaks the kiss and asks again. “Dinner, you and me?”
“Okay, but do you think we could get a snack or something now, because I’m starving.”
“Damn!” His face suddenly full of concern. “I’m not looking after you very well, am I?”
I see another side to Cade, when he starts to flap about finding a restaurant. I convince him that a sandwich, from one of the beach takeout’s, is more than enough. In fact, we end up sharing, neither of us wanting to eat too much and spoil our dinner later. Ben and Kat easily polish off one each.
On the way back to the car, Cade and Ben have both Kat and me in stitches, once again telling tales about each other, and their childhood antics. All in all, it’s been a great day and so much more fun than vegging in the sun; the stories on my Kindle ain’t going nowhere either.
Considering Kat is meant to be meeting Ben in under an hour, I can’t seem to get her to leave.
When we get back, she follows me to my room, determination set on her face. Even before the click of the door latch closing, the interrogation starts.
“Right, what happened last night?” she asks, placing her back firmly against the door.
“Before or after I propositioned Cade?”
“No way! You were fast asleep when I left.” Kat moves to sit on the edge of the bed. “Tell me he took you up on your offer?”
“Nope, he’s actually quite the gentleman.” I sigh. “We kissed.”
“Oooo, we have progress.” Kat claps her hands together.
“But then I was sick.”
“Oh, not good.”
“All down his shirt.”
“Eek! Is that when he left?”
“No, on the contrary, like I said before, he was the perfect gentleman, or carer; not sure which, really. He held my hair, wiped my face, and tucked me up in bed.”
“What aren’t you telling me?” she looks at me suspiciously. “You know I won’t give up until I know everything.”
“I need to shower,” I say, walking into the bathroom to avoid having to answer.
“You can run, but you can’t hide,” she shouts as I turn the water on.
Kat makes me jump when she shouts from the other side of the door. “He stopped the night, didn’t he?”
“You don’t know that.”
“I think I do.” She pushes open the door and puts her head around. “I can understand the cufflinks, seen as you spewed your guts up all over him, but this?” She waves Cade’s watch from side to side in front of her face. “Not so easy to explain.”
“Bloody hell, Poirot,” I squeal, as I try to cover my nakedness.
“Come on, I’ve seen you naked before.” She waves my sudden shyness away. With a hand towel, she covers the toilet seat and sits. “Get in the shower then. Oh, for God’s sake,” she spins on her bottom and puts her back to me. “Now tell me, did you at least have morning sex?”

By the time Kat leaves after giving me an ear bashing, telling me to get a pair of balls. I’m running late. Yes, I corrected her, and pointed out the saying is to grow a pair, but she said, in my case I definitely need to get a man and grab his pair.
I’m due to meet Cade in the lobby in ten minutes, but I’m still undecided as to what to wear. The cat suit I wore at the wedding is out because, well, you wouldn’t wear the same thing twice, would you? My options are limited, as I packed more for casual days out and lazy sunbathing, rather than nights out with the hottest guy that’s looked at me in months. Technically, that’s only a half-truth but he’s the only guy I’ve let get this close in a long time.
Yes, I flirt and come across as a sassy, confident woman, but as soon as it comes to the crunch, when they want to get hands on, I’m the fastest wall builder ever to come out of Slovakia.
