“You think?”

“Yeah, I do, but listen. She’s a really pretty girl, but you can’t keep staring like that at her. Girls tend to notice that sort of thing.”

“Got it, Papa.” I laugh.

As I join my grandfather back at the table and sit at my seat right beside Kate, I can’t help but accept that I’m growing even more attracted to her than I was before that evening. She fits in with the family like a glove, and we complement each other quite well, I think. Seeing how well we keep working outside of the bedroom makes me want to return to the bedroom even more.

At the end of the night, as we take our leave back to the limo out front, my grandparents give us both another long hug for the road and send us on our way.

“We want to see you again,” Nana tells Kate. “You’ll have to come back for dinner another Sunday.”

“We’ll break out the photo albums next time,” Papa threatens.

“Okay, we’ll see you in a couple of months,” I say jokingly.

“Thank you so much for having me,” Kate says to my grandparents. “I really enjoyed being here tonight. Thank you for dinner.”

“We enjoyed it, too,” Nana assures her.

We all give hugs one more time and go our separate ways. I’m tempted to grab onto her hand, but I resist.

“I really had a nice time, Aiden,” says Kate. “Thank you for inviting me over.”

“Thank you for coming,” I say back.

“Iloveyour grandparents,” she says. “They’re really so sweet. And they’re sowarm! I could’ve walked right over to their couch and taken a nap after that meal.”

“No kidding,” I agree. “Don’t think I haven’t done that before.”

“Did they like me? I think they did, but I overthink things.”

“You’re overthinking right now,” I inform her. “They really liked you a lot. If they invited you back for another dinner, they want you around. My grandfather asked me if I was going to make a move on you or not.”

“Oh, did he now?” she asks, amused. “What did you tell him?”

“I don’t think I gave a real answer, come to think of it,” I reply honestly.

“So, what are we doing now?” Kate asks.

“Whatever your heart desires, milady.”

I hold the limo door open for her to go in first. She stops before climbing in, looking like she is about to kiss me. I wait for it.

“We never talked about work once with them,” she observes. “They didn’t even ask me about work or anything. Sounded like we were all just talking and getting to know each other.”

“Does that bother you?” I ask.

“No, just saying,” she adds with a wink before stepping into the limo.

We drive straight from my grandparents’house back to Kate’s apartment. I expect to keep things simple: light conversation on the drive, a quick hug goodbye, and maybe a kiss on the cheek or hand.

My driver goes to her side and holds the door open for her. I’m surprised by what she says next.

“Would you like to come up for a nightcap?”

I can’t play it cool in that moment. I’m pleased to hear her invitation. A happy grin quickly plasters onto my dumb face.
