“We’re going to a game with a few buddies of ours,” he answers. “It’s weird, seeing you here like this.”

“Because it’s outside of the office?” I ask.

“That, and just, of all the diners in New York for me to choose, I chose the one that has Kate Harly in it. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say someone wants us together.”

“Who knows?” I ask. “Maybe you’re stalking me.”

“If I’m a stalker, I’d be a pretty fucking bad one, wouldn’t I?” he asks. “I just walked right up to your table and I’m standing here talking to you in front of everyone in the place. If I’m a stalker, I’m the worst one in the state.”

“So, what is it then? Fate?”

“It’s the universe trying to get us to copulate again,” says Aiden.

“Oh, really?” I laugh. “Do tell.”

“It’s simple, really. We’re amazing in bed together. Most people don’t have the kind of chemistry we have, even after getting to know each other. Why wouldn’t the universe want us to fornicate again? Sex is everything. It’s life.”

“You sound like a guy who hasn’t gotten laid in a while, but I know for a fact that you have,” I say quietly.

“How do you know that?” he asks, like he doesn’t know.

“I was riding on top of you in your limousine,” I say. “That’s how I know you’ve gotten laid.”

“That was a few days ago,” Aiden says. “I’ve been going through Kate withdrawals.”

“So, I’m like a drug, then? You shouldn’t do drugs.”

“I’ll do them when they’re as good as you.”

“Shouldn’t you be getting back to Adam?” I smile. “I’m sure he’s lonely over there.”

Just as I say that, Lily returns to the table.

Aiden nods and waves goodbye. “I have abandoned Adam for too long. I’ll see you on Monday, Kate. It was nice meeting you, Lily!”

After Aiden retreats back to his table to rejoin Adam, Lily practically comes bounding back to the table.

“I was watching you two over there for the last thirty seconds or so,” Lily says.

“I had a feeling you were back there.” I nod.

“You two were so totally flirting, it isn’t even funny,” she says. “The chaperone leaves and the kidsimmediatelymisbehave.”

“I was not flirting with him,” I mumble. “We were just having a good conversation. I can have a good conversation with my boss.”

“Notthatkind of good, you can’t.” She laughs. “Andyes, you were so flirting. You had your flirty face on.”

“Myflirtyface?” I ask, nearly choking.

“You know what I mean,” she says. “You had your flirty face on. You two were digging on each other so hard. You weren’t flirting. You were asking for sex.”

“I can’t help but to flirt with him, okay?” I confess. “He always flirts right back. If I don’t flirt first, he will get there fast. We can’t help it. We’re becoming addicted to each other, Lily. He’s like a drug to me.”

“Oh, forfuck’ssake.” Lily sighs. “I leave the table forthreeminutes, and everything descends into chaos.”

“I can’t get over how attracted I am to him,” I babble. “I did probably have my fucking flirty face on. I probably had it on to the tenth power.”

“Yeah, you did,” Lily confirms.
