“It’s all right,” he says. “Just, let’s not talk about it here, okay?”
I just add more questions onto my long accumulating list. I don’t want to hurt him, and I’m not sure how tender the subject is, so I back down.
“Mason has a few memories of their mother,” says Dustin, looking into his office and watching his boys playing on their tablets. “He used to ask about hereverynight. Now, he’s stopped bringing her up almost entirely. I’d like to think he’s moving on and not still sad.”
“Does Austin have many memories of their mom?” I wonder.
“No, I don’t think he even remembers her at all, to be honest,” says Dustin. “He was only a year old when Rebecca died. He just turned three a few weeks ago. He’s really funny. They both are. Austin’s usually a lot ornerier if he doesn’t like someone. I think he likes you!”
“Well, I like both of them, too,” I say.
“So why, may I ask, have you stopped by my shop today?” Dustin queries.
“I want to talk to you,” I reply. “I talked with Kelsey. I’ve thought about it, and I wanted to let you know that we’ll both work for you if you’ll still have us.”
“I’ll hire you right now!” says Dustin happily. “Yes. Please come and work for me. Can you two start on Saturday?”
“You bet we can,” I say. “I could start tomorrow afternoon if you want. We’re quitting tomorrow morning.”
“Take the day for yourself tomorrow then,” says Dustin.
“I know one way I’d like to celebrate,” I tell him. “I’d like for you to come over to my place tonight.”
“Is that so?” he asks, intrigued. “Well, I’d like to go to your place, but unfortunately, I don’t have anyone that would be able to babysit for me tonight. I can’t leave my boys alone at the house.”
“I wouldn’t ask you to do that,” I say. “How about then…Icome toyou? Why don’t I come over to your place tonight after the boys are asleep and we’ll pick up where we left off outside Cupertino’s?”
“We were getting pretty frisky and amorous there,” says Dustin. “Are you sure you want to come over to my house? One thing might lead to another.”
“I’ll take my chances,” I say with a wink.

Iget Austin in bed by seven and have Mason falling asleep by eight. Once I know they are safe and sound in their bedrooms, I sit in the living room and wait.
Megan has invited herself over, and I can’t be more thrilled. We are both hungry for each other, and I’m ready to tear into her like a starving dog. I’m going to hate having to keep our volume down, but I don’t want to traumatize Mason or Austin.
When Megan finally gets to the house, she waits a minute before coming to the door to check her hair and makeup. I don’t want her to know I can see her, so I keep the door closed until she is ready.
She walks up and gives the door a light knock. I open the door and take her in. She is wearing a low-cut blouse and a skirt, looking sexy as hell.
“Damn,” is all I can say.
“Are Mason and Austin still up?” she asks.
I shake my head. “They’re fast asleep.”
And then, just like that, Megan walks right up to me, wraps her arms around me, and kisses me. We kiss in the doorway for nearly a minute straight, not even parting to breathe.
I pull her into the house, closing the door softly behind us. We stand there in the living room, unable to decide if we want to sit and park on the couch or not. While we think about our choices, we continue to kiss each other passionately, our mouths and tongues working diligently.
She is feisty, moving her hands around in places that are sure to start trouble. I want to just reach right up her skirt and feel how wet she is.
“I want to be inside you,” I whisper to her.
“Then, take me to your bed,” she commands.
