I shuffle, finding myself reaching a semi.
Clearing my throat, I reply, “Yes?”
“Cash thinks we should go,” Bishop tells me.
“Go?”
“To the city.”
“And if there’s another attack and we’re not here?”
Bishop and Cash look at one another, grimacing for a moment.
“Okay,” Cash says, “but also, what if something happened to her?”
“Yeah,” Bishop adds. “We gotta investigate. What if she’s—” He’s cut off by the thought that we’re all thinking. Yes, she could be dead. What I’m more concerned about, though, is Bishop’s reaction. He’s the most ruthless out of us three, the least affected by the horrors that come with taking somebody’s life. This is the first time I’ve seen him look scared.
“She’s not dead,” I assure him.
“But how can we know for sure?” Cash says, his expression mirroring Bishop’s.
“Trust me, if she was dead, we’d hear something. Especially if Reaper Sons did something. You know how satisfied those bastards get.”
Bishop picks up his beer and takes a sip, slamming the glass down on the table after a long gulp. He claps his hands, jumping up. “Action stations. Let’s get out of here.”
I grab his vest, pulling him back down. “You wanna announce it to the entire club, take a fleet with us? We’ll go before sunrise tomorrow.”
“And how are we gonna find her?” Bishop asks.
A smirk crawls onto Cash’s face as he pulls out his phone, lighting the screen. “Leave that one to me, gents.”
The followingmorning brings nerves to my stomach. They cramp my insides so much that I can’t even stomach a slice of toast. I’m agreeing to this only because I want to find out what Melissa is hiding. I don’t know what’s worse—her being dishonest with us, or her moving on and finding somebody else. I think the latter cuts deeper, turning the cramping to nausea when I think about her kissing another man that isn’t me.
Being naked in front of another man as they?—
I cut the thought off, biting into the toast to silence my mind.
“You look tense,” Bishop says, sitting down next to me.
“I’m fine,” I grumble. “You know I’m not a morning person.”
“You like her.” He states it matter-of-factly. “Not just like. Maybe you even?—”
“Don’t say it.” I throw it back at him. “But I think you might.”
“It’s been two and a half weeks. You can’t fall in love with somebody in that time.”
“Says who—Cupid?”
Bishop takes off after that, walking over to Cash as he messes around on his phone.
“I’ve managed to crack it,” Cash says, gleaming at us.
I take off from my chair to inspect the phone screen, but don’t exactly know what’s worth celebrating here. All I’m seeing is a collection of numbers and letters. Some sort of code displayed across the screen.
“What is this? Hieroglyphics?”
“I managed to hack into her phone,” Cash says. “She has theFind My iPhonefeature enabled on her phone, so it wasn’t difficult, especially since I already have her number saved.”
