Diesel smiles, something he doesn’t do much. “Is that so?”
I look around, searching for something that will give me an indication of the time. In here, it doesn’t exist, and I’m glad about that.
Because when time exists, other things do.
And there are some realities I don’t think I’ll ever be able to bring myself to face—like whose side I’m on. Daddy is the only remaining family member I have left. He has my heart.
But I fear the bikers might have stolen it.

DIESEL
“Here.” I hand Melissa a change of clothes, a sudden tingly sensation rushing through me as our hands brush.
She gives me a smile. “Thanks.”
There’s a way we can still win here. A way we can beat Reaper Sonsandkeep exploring things with Melissa. For that to succeed, she needs to be away from the firing zone, back in the city.
The thought of her being out of my sight dampens my spirit slightly. I’ve had sex with women before and felt nothing, but with Melissa, it feels like I’ve gained an extra limb. There’s a shift in energy, like our bond has strengthened.
From the corner of the tattoo parlor, I watch her dress. I stole some sweats from the lost and found. It’s nothing special, and they’re two sizes too big on her, but she pulls them off. She’s like a Rumpelstiltskin. Everything she touches turns to gold, including me.
There’s a spring to my step now. The weight in my chest doesn’t seem as heavy.
I clench my jaw as she nears me, crossing the room to the exit.
“Time to get you home, sweetheart,” Bishop says, folding up her dress. He clamps it under his arm and guides her over to the door.
Fresh air hits me like a ton of bricks, bringing me back to reality. I want to hide in the tattoo parlor for another day and distract myself from the fact that we’re under attack. Time ceases to exist when I’m in Melissa’s company.
We all lock up and head back to the clubhouse. Judging from the positioning of the sun in the sky, it’s late afternoon.
“We should get Melissa home before sundown,” I say.
“Good idea,” says Cash.
“I’ll nip inside for the keys to the Harley,” Bishop says. “Meet me out front.”
We split up, Cash and I escorting Melissa around the back of the clubhouse. I turn the corner, expecting to see a clear walkway, but instead I find myself face-to-face with Gigi.
She crosses her arms over her lingerie-covered chest, face more sour than normal.
“What are you doing out back here?” I ask her.
She scrunches up her lips and turns to Melissa. “You are such a bitch.” She raises a hand, drawing it back to give herself momentum for the slap she’s about to plant across Melissa’s cheek.
“Hey! Hey!” Cash grabs her wrist, bicep bulging as he forces it back down to her side. “You don’t wanna do that.”
“You stole him from me,” Gigi says.
“She stole nobody.”
“I heard you in there!”
I’m about to step in to bring Gigi back inside when Melissa pushes past me, smirking. “Good! So you heard how loud I was screaming for him.”
Gigi’s bitter eyes turn to Cash and me. “I’ll tell Grizzly what you’ve been doing.”
