“Yeah,” she says, voice wobbling.
“I’ll be back soon.” And with that, I open the door and shut it to rejoin the chaos, slipping behind the curtain first to acquire a weapon I barely know how to use.
Damn, I should have gone out and shot targets with the other prospects yesterday.
All hell breaks loose in the main room. It’s eagles vs. skulls.
And the skulls still outweigh us by twenty.
Bullets fire. The wooden parts of this infrastructure give way, bullets traveling through walls and leaving holes in their wake.
I hold the weapon in my hand and make a lunge at a skull patch member that tries to sneak himself down the corridor where I just came from.
“What are you hiding down there, buddy?”
“Wouldn’t you like to know?”
He smiles, revealing a full set of rotten teeth. I smell his breath too.
“Somebody forgot to clean their teeth this morning.”
“That’s right,” he retorts. “I was too desperate to ride over here and kill all of you. After I plant this bullet in your chest, I think I’ll treat myself and have a go with your brunette toy.”
Rage boils up inside of me. “Don’t you dare.”
“Don’t look too scared. It’s only a matter of time before all of this is ours, anyway.”
“You’re not having this club.”
“Says the bastard who isn’t even a patch member yet,” cackles my opponent. “Your toy must pity you. How hard does she let you fuck her?” Another yellow-tooth smile. “I guarantee I’ll fuck her ten times harder. She’ll be screaming.”
My finger navigates to the trigger.
BAM!
I wasn’t even aiming, but it was a very good shot. My best work. The bullet rips straight through the attacker’s face, dropping him to the floor. Feeling smug, I stand over him and admire my work, watching the blood ooze out of his eye. He only has one left, and it’s glued open in death as looks to the ceiling, startled.
Finally, I’m getting a taste of what it feels like to be Bishop and Diesel.
And the taste is addicting.
But the battle isn’t over yet.
More bodies fall to the ground. I pounce, making sure the gun still carries enough bullets, and get ready to fire. This time I’m not as lucky, but I have killed my first Reaper Sons member so I’m glad about that.
Hearing the cracking of bones, I look up just as Diesel breaks the neck of a Reaper with his bare hands. He throws him to the floor afterward like it’s nothing, and then moves onto his next target, settling his hands on a new opponent.
It’s like second nature to him, the way he casually places his hands on the man’s temples, dislocating the neck and shoulders, and then tossing him away like he’s a waste of space.
Note to self—don’t get on the wrong side of Diesel.
I backtrack, moving aside as Diesel moves onto his target, when I bump into another body. Snapping around, I tighten the gun in my hands and prepare to spray bullets, but it’s just Snapper, one of the many prospects I started here with.
“What are you doing?” he asks me.
“Isn’t it obvious?” I say. “We’re under attack.”
“It’s just gonna aggravate them even more.”
