“Our bathroom,” he corrects. “Our room. I’m having a few of the prospects enclose it to make it private. I’ll fucking lose it if another man lays eyes on what’s mine.”
I shake my head. “Calm down big guy.”
He kisses me long and hard. “I’ll see you tonight.”
Worry crosses his beautiful, rugged features.
“I’ll be here when you get back.” I inch up on my tippy toes and plant a kiss to his lips.” Be careful, Mavis.”
“I will.”
He walks out the door, closing it behind him.
I know part of him wonders if I’d leave after giving him my virginity. Especially if I get pregnant with his child. But no, I wouldn’t. I can never walk away from him like that.
I place my new red messenger bag on the desk and retrieve my laptop and phone. Texting Toby and telling him he’s an asshole crosses my mind. But I can’t do that and risk him coming for me.
After logging into my social media account, I message my clients to let them know I’m back. Within minutes, a few reply, eager to schedule one-on-one Zoom sessions.
It feels good to be back to work again. I’ll be happy when all this Toby bullshit is over so I can come and go as I please.
There’s a knock at the door.
“Who is it?”
‘Tonya.”
I close the calendar on my laptop feeling good about scheduling clients out next week. I saunter to the door and open it.
“Hello Tonya.”
A radiant smile lifts her honey brown cheeks. “Well don’t you look happier. Now that you let your guard down and let Mavis into your heart.”
I cross my arms over my chest. “I take it since you told me he was crazy about me you deserve some credit for me becoming his OL’ Lady?”
Her eyes go wide. “Really? Wow, you’re officially Ruthless’s OL’ Lady?”
Heat creeps up my cheeks. “Yeah… I know, it’s insane. I fell for my captor.”
She laughs softly. “You two were meant to be, that’s all.”
I arch a brow. “Where are you from with that southern accent?”
“Little Rock Arkansas.” She flashes a smile.
“How did you and Legos meet?"
She grins, the memory lighting up her face.
“I was working at this little diner back in my hometown. It was one of those slammed mornings where no matter how fast I moved, it wasn’t fast enough. I kept yelling at the waitresses to grab their damn orders, but they were moving at a snail’s pace. One of them—Joanne—was over at a booth full of bikers, flirtinglike she had all the time in the world. Twirling her hair, laughing at whatever one of them said.
I slammed my palm on the counter. 'Joanne, pick up your food now!' I barked.
That same biker—the one making her laugh—shot me a death glare like I’d interrupted a proposal or something. I told him he could make her laugh and get her numberaftershe delivered the orders. Then I rolled my eyes and went back to my grill. He was ruggedly gorgeous, but I’d had my fill of men. The last few I dated turned possessive. One even stalked me. So I was grateful he was flirting with her and not me.
Not that he would’ve noticed me anyway. I was wearing a hairnet, for fuck’s sake. That thing was basically my creeper repellent."
She chuckles and shakes her head before continuing.
