After he sends the text, he instantly starts typing again.
A nervous feeling lands in the pit of my stomach.
Is he going to tell me he doesn’t want to see me anymore? Did he actually hate the sex and never wants to see me again because I have bad breath or something? I know Shiloh’s not really like that, but my mind goes there anyway.
I wonder if that’s what it’s like for him all the time with his anxiety. Always going to the worst-case scenario.
Shiloh:Will you be my boyfriend?
I shakily exhale, not realizing I was holding my breath. Excitement bursts in my chest.
Me:Yes! I’m trying to think of something witty to say to you, but that’s all I have. Just a big fat yes.
Shiloh:I can’t stop smiling.
Me:Me either. You’re the first boyfriend I’ve ever had.
Shiloh:Really?
Me:Yep. I’ve never been this serious with anyone. You know what this means, right???
Shiloh:Oh god. I’m afraid to ask.
Me:Bahahaha what? Don’t you trust me?
Shiloh:I do trust you.
I hold the phone to my chest as my heart does this weird fluttery thing. I kind of think I love him, but I don’t know if that’s just the multiple orgasms he gave me talking.
Me:We gotta make it FB official now. And we have a new date to remember for the future. July 5th
Shiloh:lol you and your dates
I get a notification about a minute later that Shiloh tagged me in a Facebook post. I accept the “in a relationship” tag and feel like a freaking lovesick puppy as people start reacting to the post and congratulating us.
Amanda, the girl Shiloh works with, is one of them. She comments, “NO FREAKING WAY! SO CUTE!”
My phone starts blowing up with texts too.
Ruben:Congrats, my man! So happy for you and S. He’s a cool guy. I approve.
Me:Thx, Ru
I leave for work before my parents get home, which is good because I’m in a great mood, and they’d bring me down. Mondays are always insanely slow, so it’s just me and two other people working. Ruben has the day off. I work in the box office selling tickets, then run upstairs when it’s time to start movies.
While in the projection room, I whip out my phone and take a selfie, using the flash since it’s so dark up here. I send it to Shiloh with a heart emoji as the caption.
Shiloh:You’re so cute.
Me:Not as cute as you
Shiloh:Whatever lol
Maybe I’m overly mushy today, but I don’t give a crap. I’m too happy to care.
