Page 6 of Only for Me
I glanced at my phone and realized it was just after five. For the past couple hours since I’d made it home I had been sitting on my sofa; randomly staring at that damn wallet, trying to make a decision about what the hell I was going to do. Like it or not, my mind was made up as soon as I saw those damn eyes.
I dialed my lawyer, not caring that it was early. Raaj Arman had been with me for three years so he was used to the early morning and late night calls from me. I was his first client after he left Yates and Long, moving from family law to entertainment law, which meant he specialized in both. I supposed that was about to work in my favor.
“I need a DNA test. How easy is it to set that up?”
“Won’t take much, what’s going on?” He sounded like I woke him but the retainer I paid shut down my ability to care.
“Just start working on that for me. I need it quiet too. No media leaks.”
“Did you get someone pregnant?”
“Not sure but it’s possible the kid could be mine.”
“How old is the kid?”
I did the math in my head. Based on the Super Bowl last year and it was currently March, that would make the kid about four months old, which aligned with the baby Makari had with her.
“Three, maybe four months.”
“This your first time hearing about it?”
I brushed a hand over my head. “Yeah, but it’s not like she had access to me.”
That wasn’t really the issue. Makari damn near bolted out of that store when she recognized me. She didn’t want me to see her or the kid.
“Then how do you know?”
“I ran into her.”
“And she told you the child is yours?”
“No, she didn’t say shit.”
“I’m confused about what we’re doing then, O. Sounds like she wasn’t planning on telling you.”
“She wasn’t.”
“But you want a test?”
Raaj was the first call I made when it was leaked that Sia was carrying my kid a year ago. I told him there was no way the kid was mine ,and if she wanted to pretend it was, we were demanding a paternity test which would prove it wasn’t. She never really said it but when photos surfaced of us coming out of a bathroom at Black Diamonds and they asked her if I was the father, she alluded to the idea that I was by stating, “do the math, what do you think?”
Shit pissed me off so I quickly let the world know I didn’t want kids, and if she was carrying mine, she needed to come collect her check. Whether she kept it or not after that was up to her but she would damn sure be a single mother. I was high as hell that night so when Vanessa, my publicist, played the clip for me the next morning, she got in my ass about being so reckless.I waved it off, telling her the whole family thing would never be me. That wasn’t my calling.
“I want to make sure this isn’t a problem.”
“I’ll make some calls to get this set up. You need to be careful…”
“I know. Just handle it.”
“Do you have her information?”
“Yeah, hold on. I have her wallet.”
“How the hell do you have her wallet?”
“She was so busy running from me she didn’t realize she left it.”
“What the hell do you mean running from you? What did you do, O?”
