Page 10 of Only for Me
As soon as Omiri was in my small living room, which felt even more tiny because of his massive presence, he dropped his eyes to Avi again. I didn’t want him focused on her, so I pointed to the sofa. “You can have a seat.”
He kept his gaze fixated on her for a minute longer before he sat dead center of my tiny couch. Or hell, maybe it wasn’t tiny and he was just so damn big. At six-six and easily twice my size, he made it look like child’s furniture.
Having him here made me uncomfortable. Not because I felt like he was a danger to me or Avi, at least not physically. He wouldn’t hurt us, but he could crush my heart by trying to take her from me. Just like he made so abundantly clear before forcing himself into my house, his money was a lot longer than mine. My nerves got the best of me so I walked over to Avi and lifted her into my arms before I got settled on the love seat adjacent to where he was seated. For some reason, having her close made me feel a little better.
Omiri’s gaze locked on Avi’s face and my little muffin, who was always full of smiles, handed over the biggest one I had everseen after her little brow furrowed as if trying to make sense of the giant she wasn’t familiar with.
“Anybody in your family got that?”
“What?”
“You knowwhat, Makari.” He glared at me with exactly what he meant. His damn eyes.
“Yes.”
He snorted and dropped his eyes to Avi. “Who?”
I wasn’t sure how much he knew about me. The guy likely had resources and had access to my full name and driver’s license. It wouldn’t have been hard for him to do a deep dive and find photos of my parents online. Not many recent of my father since he passed six years ago, but my mother never met a camera she didn’t like. Neither of them had heterochromia. I couldn’t tell that lie and get away with it.
“My grandfather…”
He arched his brow, making me nervous so I added. “On my father’s side.”
My father’s parents passed away ages ago. My grandmother when I was a baby and my grandfather when I was five. It wasn’t likely that he’d found pictures of them.
“Cut the shit, Makari. Is she mine?”
“No.”
“How old is she?”
I just stared at him and he chuckled arrogantly before saying, “Super Bowl weekend would mean she’s three or four months. Looks about right.”
“You’re a baby expert now?” I narrowed my eyes.
“Shouldn’t I be since she’s mine.”
“She’s not…” The look he delivered had me slamming my mouth shut. Okay, I couldn’t win this. I would have to negotiate. “What do you want?”
He laughed dryly. “Shouldn’t I be the one asking you that shit? This is wild as fuck.”
Omiri shook his head like he couldn’t believe this was happening.
Right there with you, buddy…
“Why didn’t you tell me?” His tone was so hard and unforgiving I actually might’ve believed that he cared that I hadn’t told him.
“How was I supposed to do that? It’s not like you’re easily accessible.”
“My dick accessibly joined with your pussy to make a kid. You should have found a way to tell me.”
“We had sex, it was a one night stand.”
“That made a gotdamn kid, Makari. Why the fuck wouldn’t you have told me that?”
“I had my reasons,” I defended.
“Then run that shit down because it seems to me like you deliberately kept my kid from me for damn near a year.” He leaned back with his eyes locked on Avi. As angry as he was, none of that was directed at our daughter. Our…
