I smirked and rolled the shot glass between my fingers. “Yeah I wasn’t exactly father material back then.”

“You still aren’t father material.” He grabbed the bottle and refilled his glass. “But you’re trying to be. That’s a start.”

“I’m really not built for this. I swear she makes me want to choke her the fuck out then make her cum right after.”

“Bruh, she’s got you by the balls.”

“You might want to try talking to her instead of throwing money in her face. You think she’s cool with your daughter. Like is she a good mother? ’Cause a lot of these hoes be on some bullshit.”

I couldn’t even lie. Makari was a great mother. The way she was with Avi was proof of how much she loved our daughter. I had no complaints other than having not been a part of their world.

“Nah, she’s not like that. She’s good with Avi but I think that’s the thing that pisses me off the most. They have theirconnection and my kid doesn’t know me. I could literally be any stranger off the street and it wouldn’t matter.”

“That will change but you have to be patient.”

“I don’t do patient.”

I laughed. “Yeah… well, she was giving me shit too; so don’t feel sorry for her. She literally told me I was throwing my weight around but didn’t give a damn about being a father to Avi.”

“Is she right?”

“Yeah, probably.”

“Then fix that shit.”

“I don’t know if I can. I really don’t want to fuck this up.”

“Then bail now because you’re gonna fuck up. There’s not a parent on earth who got it one hundred percent right with their kids.”

I was walking proof.

“But trust me, O. If you want to step up, you will. The question is whether or not you’re going to do that working with baby mama or against her.”

I smirked. “She don’t trust me, so if it’s up to her, I’m gonna have to fight her ass for every fucking inch I gain.”

“Can you blame her? Look how you handled today. You pulled up and took over her whole damn house.”

“I was protecting them.”

“Nah, that was possession and a flex. Be real with your shit, O.”

“What the fuck else am I supposed to do, fall back?”

“Earn her trust and prove that you can be a father to your daughter without steamrolling over everything that woman has built for them. It might help if you fuck her and get past that so you can focus on what’s most important, your kid.”

He was right but I was fucking annoyed by all this.

“She’s not just some random woman I can nut in and forget. She’s Avi’s mother. If I mess up with Kari, it affects my daughter.”

“And if you don’t mess up, it can make things better for all of y’all.”

“I’m not trying to be married with a kid.”

He laughed. “Nobody said a damn thing about marriage. You’re telling on yourself.” I shot him a look and he shrugged. “You need to figure out if you really want to be a father or if you’re just doing this because you feel guilty about your brother.”
