Chapter Fifty-Nine

LAUREN

T he next four months fly by in a flurry of assignments, exams, work, spending time with Caleb, and acting as shocked as everyone else when they found out about Dean Williams and Brad.

Brad got a two year suspended sentence. That’s it.

The dean took a leave of absence from the university…

indefinitely. They had no evidence against him, and Brad refused to testify against him, taking the blame solely on his shoulders.

The last I heard they’d gone their separate ways.

I just hope history won’t repeat itself.

I continued working at Strokes, but my last shift is next week.

Caleb and I are going traveling for the summer before I start my new job as an English teacher for dyslexic children.

To say I’m excited is an understatement but it’s bittersweet.

I’ve been at Strokes for so long now, they’re like my second family, so it’s going to be hard saying goodbye to them.

The girls are all here today—Esme, Destiny, Sapphire, Sydney, and Raven—to cheer me on as I walk to the podium to graduate. Caleb’s sitting with the other faculty members on stage.

The nerves start taking over and I glance over at him, instantly calming when he gives me a wink. I should have known he’d know where I was. I chuckle to myself at his possessiveness—the man knows no bounds.

My name’s called and I make my way up to the stage, Caleb steps forward and I stop, furrowing my brow in confusion. He takes my diploma out of the chancellor’s hand and whispers in his ear. The chancellor looks at me with wide eyes before turning and nodding his head at Caleb.

What just happened?

Caleb takes the chancellor's position and gestures with the diploma in his hand for me to come and get it. I smile at him and he smiles back, one so wide I’m not sure how his face isn’t hurting.

Stopping in front of him, I lean in slightly and whisper, “Hi, handsome.”

“Hey, sweetheart,” he says before gently throwing my diploma behind his head and grabbing my hand, pulling me toward him.

I squeal as my hands come to rest on his chest. “Caleb.” Breathless at being so close to him, I stutter out, “Wh-what are you doing?”

“Claiming my woman,” is all he says before sweeping me up and kissing me in front of everyone .
