Page 93 of My Destiny
“It’s been weighing heavily on my mind, and I’d like them to get it before Friday.”
“Fair enough.” His face is expressionless as he closes the distance between us and takes a seat on the corner of the desk.
“I know this isn’t easy for you, Hot Stuff, but it’s something I need to do. I hope you understand that. These people were my family once.”
“You’re right, it isn’t easy for me, but I do understand.” He sighs before continuing. “I admire the compassion you have for others.” He bows his head, so I place my hand on his leg.
“Thank you.” Picking up the letter, I hold it out to him. “You’re welcome to read what I wrote.”
“Please don’t take this the wrong way, but I’d rather not.” An endearing smile tugs at his lips as he stands and holds out his hand to me. “Come back to bed.”
“Okay.”
“Where are you going with those?” Logan asks as I grab my running gear out of the drawer and head into the bathroom.
“I’m getting ready for my run.”
“But—”
“No buts.”
“Brooke,” he says, throwing back the covers and jumping out of bed. “I really don’t think this is a good idea.”
He follows me into the en-suite. “I feel fine. A run will do me a world of good.”
“I really think you should wait a few more days.”
“Nope,” I say, removing the t-shirt I was wearing, and throwing it in the dirty clothes basket. “You said a couple of days a few days ago.”
“Babe.”
“You worry too much,” I say, stepping into my underwear.
“It’s my job to worry about you.”
“I love that you do, but you can’t wrap me up in cotton wool.”
“How about we use the gym. I can keep an eye on you there.”
“Or you could go running with me,” I say, slipping my arms through the holes of my sports bra. “The fresh air will do you good.”
“Running is for pansies,” he replies, pulling me into his arms.
“Is that so?”
“Real men work out at the gym.”
“I beg to differ. I’ve seen plenty of hotties while I’m out running.”
His eyes narrow to slits as he draws his face back to meet mine. “Hotties, eh?”
“In abundance.”
He throws his head back. “Ugh, please don’t make me go with you.” His comment makes me laugh.
“It’ll be fun.”
“But I hate running.”
