Page 46 of My Destiny
Life has been hard for her, and she has no one left to turn to. I make a silent pledge to myself as I hold her tight: I’ll be that one person she can always count on, if she’ll let me, of course.
CHAPTER TWENTY
Brooke
Finally pulling myself together, I draw back. I didn’t mean to cry in front of him. It’s been a long time since I’ve mourned her. I remember Jake getting angry with me the last time he found me lying across our bed sobbing. It was the anniversary of the day she’d passed, and I’d just gotten back from the cemetery.‘She’s been dead for years, get the fuck over it,’he’d said. Her death is something I don’t think I’ll ever get over.
There’s so much compassion on Logan’s face as his eyes meet mine. “My heart hurts for you,” he whispers. Reaching up, he glides the pad of his thumb gently across my cheek, wiping my tears away. I’m touched by his tenderness. It’s been so long since somebody gave a shit about me.
Bringing his face forward he places his lips against my forehead. When he pulls back, I see something else in his eyes. I’m not sure if I’m just lost in the moment, or craving his affection, but I inch my face forward and place my lips against his.
For a moment neither of us move, but our mouths stay connected. “Brooke,” he murmurs, as his fingers slide into my hair. I know this is going to complicate things, but right now I need this more than I need air.
I part my lips, giving him the clarity he needs. At first his movements are slow and precise—god, this man knows how to kiss—but things heat up pretty quickly. It’s been over eight months since I’ve had any kind of affection, and it’s not until now that I realise how much I’ve missed it.
He rolls me onto my back, and part of his body covers mine. I can feel his erection pressed up against my leg. His hand glides over my outer thigh before cupping my arse. “Logan.”
He draws back, making eye contact with me again. So many questions are etched on his face, and I can tell he’s searching for permission to keep going. Walking away now would be the most sensible thing to do, but I want this—no, Ineedhim. I need the closeness; I need the escape.
A primal growl rumbles in the back of Logan’s throat as I wrap one leg around his waist, before bringing his lips back to mine. He deepens the kiss as he shifts his body, settling between my thighs. I drape my other leg around his, linking them at the ankles.
Rocking his body forward, he grinds against my core. I already feel like I’m on the edge of coming undone. Is there anything this man isn’t good at?
When my legs start to tremble, he must sense that I’m close because he picks up the pace, and the friction is just what I need. His hand slides under my T-shirt, and when he squeezes my nipple between his forefinger and thumb, I’m gone.
“Oh god,” I moan into his mouth as my orgasm rocks through me.
“Fuck,” he says, drawing back to look at me. “Do you even realise how hot that was? You drive me wild.”
Pushing him over onto his back, I straddle his lap. I’ve had a taste and I want more. I’m aching to have his hands and mouth all over me. It’s been too long.
A sexy smirk lights up his face as I reach for the hem of my pink T-shirt, pulling it over my head.
The way his eyes drink me in makes my skin prickle. I tilt my head back and softly moan as his fingertips glide up my sides to cup my breasts. He gives them a firm squeeze. “Jesus Christ, they’re real,” he says, making me laugh. I guess they’re big enough to be mistaken as implants.
Lifting his head off the pillow, he swirls his tongue around my nipple. “Yes,” I cry out, encouraging him to keep going.
His fingertips slides down the front of my underwear, and over my sensitive flesh. “You’re so wet for me.”
He better believe it. I can’t ever remember feeling this turned on. “I need you.” Because in this moment Ineedhim so much.
He flips me onto my back and reaches over to his bedside drawer to grab a condom. “I need you too. I’ve never wanted somebody so much in my life.”
I get the feeling there’s a greater meaning behind his words, which should alarm me, but I’m too far gone to turn back now.
Reaching over to the bedside table, I grab my mobile phone. It dinged a few minutes ago, and I’ve been hesitant to read it. I already know it’s from Hot Stuff, since he’s the only one who has this number.
What happened between us this morning was like nothing I’ve ever experienced in my life. I mean, nothing! I can’t even put it into words. So here I lie, back in the spare room staring up at the ceiling, as I analyse every single second of it.
Holding the phone in front of my face, I read the message on the screen.
I can’t get you off my mind. x
Releasing a drawn out breath, my hand drops back down onto the bed. He’s been on my mind all morning too, I’m so conflicted.
Deciding to sit on the message a while longer, I push up off the bed and head downstairs. Jill’s probably wondering where I am. I’ve been hiding out in here ever since Logan left for work. It’s times like this when I really need my mother. She always gave the best advice.
“Good morning,” Jill says as I enter the kitchen.
