Page 56 of My Destiny
I’m not fooled so easily. He sent her a similar message the night I was having dinner at her place, and I don’t doubt for a second that he was there. I go to type my reply, but another message comes through before I finish.
Scrap that. He’s just sent another message.
My adrenaline starts to pump.
Are you enjoying your time at the Sydney Tower? You might be laughing now, but not for long. He can’t keep you by his side forever. When you least expect it, I will be waiting, BITCH! You can count on that.
I stand so fast that my chair topples over, as I rush towards the restrooms. “Brooke, are you in there?” I say in a raised voice, bashing on the door that leads to the ladies’ toilets. When I don’t get a reply, I enter. My blood is coursing through my body at an alarming rate as I push through the second door. I freeze the moment I see her standing at the basin washing her hands.
“What the hell, Logan? You can’t come in here!” Her face screws up in confusion, as I close the distance between us, pulling her to me. She squirms in my arms as I briefly crush her body to mine.
“Thank fuck,” I whisper into her hair.
“Logan, what’s going on?”
No time for that. “I’ll explain later. We need to get out of here.”
“But…”
“No buts, Brooke.”
Wrapping my arm around her, I guide us towards the exit.
“Logan,” she protests, trying to free herself.
“Please just trust me on this.”
She stops resisting as we approach the lift. “Our bags are still at the table,” she says when I press the down arrow.
“I’ll send Chris back up to get them.”
CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR
Brooke
I pace back and forth in the main room of Logan’s penthouse. A guy named Mike sits on the opposite side of the room watching my every move. I’m an equal mixture of nerves, concern, and pissed off. We were having the best time until everything went to shit.
After rushing me into some strange man’s car, I was brought back here alone, where Mike was waiting to escort me up to the apartment. I watch him from the corner of my eye. Ugh!
I got a brief message from Logan on the way home.
I’ll explain everything when I get there. Mike will look after you until then. x
That was two hours ago.
When the lift doors finally open half an hour later, and a weary looking Logan steps out, I don’t know whether to cry or to punch him.
Rushing towards him, I wrap my arms around his waist, but the relief of knowing he’s okay is short lived as the anger takes over.
“What the hell?” I say, taking a step back and pushing on his chest. I see a smile tug at his lips, but I find no humour in this situation. None whatsoever.
When my eyes narrow, the smirk quickly drops from his face. “He was there.”
“Who was where?”
“Jake. He was watching us.”
“What?” I feel the colour drain from my face. “Did you see him?”
