Page 89 of My Destiny
I’m sitting on the edge of the bed when Brooke exits the bathroom after drying her hair. Standing, I pull back the covers. “You need your rest,” I say.
“You’re not joining me?”
I’m dead tired, but I know sleep won’t come easy. “I’m going to go downstairs and do some work. I really need to check my emails.”
“Oh.” I can see the sadness in her eyes as she passes me, and it makes me feel like an arsehole.
I wait until she climbs into bed before pulling the sheets up, covering her. When I lean down to kiss her cheek, she turns onto her side, facing her back to me.
Sitting down on the side of the bed, I run my fingers through the strands of her hair that are now fanned out across the pillow. “I won’t be long.” When she doesn’t reply, my hand moves to her shoulder. “Hey.”
“Take all the time you need,” she says, but I don’t miss the crack in her voice as she speaks.
“Brooke.” Again, she doesn’t answer. “Babe, turn around.”
“Why?”
“Please.” When she ignores my plea, I rise and walk around to the other side of the bed. Her eyes are closed, but when she swipes her finger underneath one of them, I know she’s crying. Without hesitation I pull back the covers and climb in beside her. A small sob escapes her as I gather her in my arms. “Don’t cry,” I whisper, placing my lips on her forehead. “It kills me to see you like this.”
“If you’d rather me not be here, I can go.”
“What? No.” Drawing back, I slide my hand under her chin and raise her face to meet mine. “Of course I want you here. Why would you think I didn’t?”
She shrugs her shoulder. In my heart, I know exactly why she feels like that. “You’re acting weird.”
“I want you here,” I repeat, as my lips brush against hers. When her eyes scan mine, searching for the truth, I say it once more. “I want you here.” I’m not sure what’s going on inside my head, but I mean what I say. She belongs here with me.
“Make love to me, Hot Stuff,” she whispers.
“The doctor said you need to rest.”
“Please. I need you.”
“I need you too, but there will be plenty of time for that when you’ve recovered.”
She sighs, before diverting her gaze. “I need you to help me forget.”
“Jesus,” I say, pulling her body closer. What does she mean by that? Did Jake do something to her? Beyond what we already know.
“Please.” She pushes me onto my back and straddles my lap.
“I don’t think so,” I say, gently rolling her back down onto the mattress. When her face drops, I know she thinks I’m rejecting her again. “If we’re going to do this, I’m doing all the work.”
“Huh?”
I grin when I see the confusion on her face. If this is what she needs then I’ll give it to her. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for her. “The doctor said you’re not to overdo it.”
“But…”
“Shh,” I say, placing my finger on her mouth to halt her protest. “My way or no way.” I chuckle when she sucks my finger into her mouth, before softly biting down on it. I pull myself up on my knees. “Sit up.” I slide my oversized t-shirt she’s wearing over her head before laying her back down. I love seeing her in my clothes. “Just relax.” I smile at her before my head disappears under the sheets. By the time I’m done with her, the only thing she’ll be able to think about is me.
CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX
Logan
“Oh god,” she moans as she tugs on my hair. I know she’s close because her legs are trembling. My tongue movements quicken as I slide two fingers deep inside her little piece of heaven, and it’s enough to send her over the edge. “Hot Stuff,” she cries loudly as I milk every last drop of her orgasm. I could do this all day with her and never tire.
Wiping my mouth with the back of my hand, I make my way back up her body. “You okay?” I ask, popping my head out of the sheet. The huge contented smile I see on her face tells me she is.
