Page 61 of My Destiny
“Hey. You weren’t saying that last night.” I laugh when he nips at my earlobe. “Don’t tell my sister I’m filling her kid up with sugar when she comes to visit. She’ll kill me.”
“Your secret is safe with me.”
I can’t put into words how magical the last two weeks have been. My feelings for this man grow deeper with each passing day. He’s so thoughtful and attentive, and showers me with affection. If I’m honest with myself, it’s the happiest I’ve felt in my life. Instead of looking forward to moving back into my own place, I’m now finding myself dreading the thought of leaving here, leaving him.
There’s been no word from Jake—nothing whatsoever. I’m hoping he was spooked by almost being caught, but Logan is leaning more toward the calm before the storm. I pray that’s not the case.
When the timer goes off, I grab both trays from the oven, placing them on the bench to cool. “Can I try one?”
“No.” I slap his hand when he reaches over. “You’ll get to try them at the party.”
“Are you serious? You’re not going to let me have one?”
“Nope,” I say, fighting a smile.
“Wow. Your ugly side is coming out now, Miss Ryan.”
“What?” I swing around, facing him.
“Who knew I was shacking up with the cupcake Nazi?”
“That’s a bit harsh,” I shriek, slapping his chest.
“If the shoe fits, my love. You remind me of theSoup Nazioff Seinfeld. No cupcakes for you!” He even tries to mimic the guy’s accent with his last sentence, making me laugh.
I lunge at him, but he’s too quick and manages to sidestep me. Before I know what’s happening, he captures me around the waist and throws me over his shoulder. I squeal when he brings his hand down hard on my arse. “Someone needs to be punished,” he says, heading in the direction of our bedroom.
“I made a few cupcakes for you, Chris,” I say, taking the small container from Logan, and passing it over the seat.
“That was really nice of you. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” He smiles at me through the rear view mirror.
“Hey! How come he gets to try a cupcake before me?”
“You’ll have plenty to eat at the party,” I say. “Stop being a baby.”
I hear Chris chuckle from the front seat. “Me, a baby?” he scoffs. “I wasn’t the one crying out half an hour ago.”
“Oh my god,” I mouth as I pinch his leg, which only makes him laugh. I can’t believe he just said that in front of Chris.
Leaning closer, Logan whispers in my ear. “Seeing you blush like that turns me on.” So, I pinch him again.
I’m a bundle of nerves by the time we arrive at Logan’s sister’s house. I see the car that’s been following us for the past few weeks pull up behind the limousine when I exit the vehicle. Security’s still tight, and for the most part I don’t notice them, but I still hate that this is what’s become of my life. Will things ever go back to the way they used to be?
I push those thoughts to the back of my mind. I don’t want Jake spoiling today for me.
“What if your family hate me,” I say, coming to stand beside Logan on the sidewalk.
“Not possible. They’ll love you.”
“How can you be so sure?”
“Trust me, you’re very loveable.”
“You’re biased,” I say, nudging him with my shoulder.
“When it comes to you, I am. But I’m also telling the truth.” Leaning forward he places a chaste kiss on my lips.
