CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE

ULGAR STOOD IN the center of the room, his eyes narrowed on me.

“What the fuck are you doing here?” I asked.

Ulgar’s nostrils twitched, and I knew he was smelling my scent in the air; the scent of an unmated omega. His eyes flared with hunger. My throat was suddenly very dry, and I gulped, trying to wet it.

“You shouldn’t be here. How did you get in?” I said, edging back.

He stepped towards me, saying something. He licked his lips. It was a thoughtful gesture, like a snake tasting the air, and spoke again, a low rumble.

I didn’t know what he was saying, but the meaning was clear from the way he stalked towards me, like a predator cornering his prey. I balked. My body went from pleasantly warm to ice cold in a flash. He was gearing himself up for something, and I’d been around enough scuzzy guys to know exactly what that was. I stood up, gripping the sheet tightly around my waist, suddenly very aware of how naked I was beneath the thin material.

His voice was low with want as he spoke in grunting Panlin. “You are unclaimed.”

My voice was unsteady as I spoke. “Arcay won me.”

He continued towards me, his heavy-lidded eyes set intently on me. I looked at the doorway, willing someone to come in. Why was Lendel taking so long? He should be back by now. And hadn’t Arcay got someone to guard the door? Where were they?

I backed up. “I’m his by law.”

“You should be mine.”

I bolted, holding the sheet up to stop me from tripping. I aimed for the door, the only way out without being cornered, but he caught up to me in five long steps. He grabbed the back of my neck, his claws digging in just below Arcay’s mark as he jerked me backward. My feet left the ground and I shouted wordlessly in pain and fear.

He shoved me against the wall and tore the sheet from me, leaving me exposed. His weight pressed on me.

He was so different to Arcay. There was no sensual heat, no gentle touches—I was trapped and panicked. His dick was already hard, pressing into my back, hot and grotesquely huge.

I tried to push back from the wall. “Get the fuck off me.”

His hand crushed into the back of my neck, pressing my face into the wall. I fought against him as his weight crushed the air out of me and I struggled to get a full breath in.

“Mine,” he growled.
