“What about Sloth?”
“I’m not sleepy yet!” I called out as I ran back to Mason’s side. I grinned up at him. “Ready to go for a ride?”
“A ride?”
I released my wings. A soft expression crossed his face as he touched my feathers.
“Wait,” he said as my meaning sank in. “You’re not going to—”
“Take you flying?” I threw my arms around him. “Hold on tight.”
“Gray. No. I’m way too heavy for you to carry.”
“Look, I may be small, but I’m super strong.”
“Super strong, huh?” Mason asked with a humored gleam in his eyes.
“Yep.” I flipped him around to where he was facing away from me and held him from behind. I bit at the back of his shirt before flapping my wings and lifting us off the asphalt by about a foot. “See?”
As a Nephilim, I was insanely strong. Way stronger than I looked. Truth was, I could’ve overpowered Mason at any time, but I liked being coddled and tossed around like a rag doll. It thrilled me.
“What if you get sleepy?” His heart beat so hard I felt it pounding all the way through him.
“Hey, Sloth?”
My sin lifted his head—figuratively, of course.
“Do we have enough energy to fly for a while?”I asked him.
“I’ll allow it.”
Smiling, I took Mason higher in the air. “You’ll be okay, I promise. Trust me.”
“I do trust you,” he said, hands coming to rest on my arms that were snug around his middle. Those words weren’t easy for him, and my belly flipped excitedly. “Won’t people see us?”
“The darkness helps cloak us. Kind of like a camouflage ability. It doesn’t work in brightly lit areas, but we’re not going anywhere like that, so we’ll be fine.”
Mason was a lot taller than me, so his legs hung down past mine as we flew.
“If anyone saw us, I bet they’d think I’m some demonic little imp carrying you off to my lair.”
“Well, you’re the cutest demonic imp I’ve ever seen.”
“Don’t make me laugh. I might accidentally drop you.” Just a joke. There was no way I was letting him go.
“If I go down, you’re going down with me, angel.”
“I’d cushion your fall.” I pressed my face against the side of his head.
“Yeah. All five feet of you.”
“Hey, I’m five nine, thank you very much.”
“And I adore every inch.”
A tingling warmth burrowed into my chest. Ever since I’d marked him two days ago, my already strong feelings had only grown stronger. He was my other half—the one person to ever claim my heart. However, when I tried to speak those three words to him, they caught in my throat.
Would I ever be brave enough to say I loved him?
