“Be nice to Mason, Al,” Gray said through the door before releasing an audible yawn. “I’m gonna take a quick nap.”
Their steps retreated down the hall, and the only sound left was the crackling of the logs in the fireplace.
“Please continue,” Alastair said, motioning to my phone.
I messaged Scarlett, Grim, and Storm to tell them what was going on, and they responded within minutes. The Nephilim carefully watched me the entire time, as if he were waiting for me to fuck up.
“There’s more you need to know about us, but I’ll let Gray fill you in. For now, I’ll tell you everything’s that happened.” Alastair looked at the fire. “It started with a ring…”
Chapter Seven
Gray
“Mason makes me feel funny.” I cuddled against Bellamy on the couch. I’d just woken from my morning nap.
“Funny how?” Bell rested his head on mine, scrolling through a hookup app on his phone.
I looked at his screen, absorbed in all the pictures of half-naked men. But those men did nothing for me. My libido was sleeping—which usually was the one part of me always awake and eager for some action. One thought of Mason, though, and it blazed like a wildfire.
“My stomach gets fluttery, and it’s hard to breathe. I’m crushing on him hard, Bell. Like super hard.”
“You’ve crushed on guys before. What’s special about him?”
“Everything.”
Bellamy looked at me, and his eyes instantly turned to a reddish brown, like tendrils of rust spreading out from his pupils.
“You have his eyes now,” I pointed out. “That has to mean something.”
“Lust shows you your deepest desires,” he said with a shrug. “Maybe it’s a sign Mason is your mate. With all that’s happened lately, it wouldn’t surprise me.”
Mate. I had considered it when talking to Mason earlier by the stairs. I felt so connected to him after only a few days.
“You think so?” I asked. “But how do I know for sure? What should I do? What if he doesn’t feel the same? I’m so confused.”
Bellamy softly smiled. “There’s plenty of time to figure it out. Sounds like Mason will be sticking around for a while.”
“Are he and Al still talking?”
“Yeah. I think Mason was contacting the other hunters. Filling them in.” Bellamy tossed his phone aside with a deep sigh.
“No luck?” I snuggled against his arm. I liked cuddling with Bellamy. He always smelled nice.
“I don’t need luck with a face like mine.” He tapped a finger on his thigh. “Just not interested in any of them.”
“Why?”
“Humans aren’t doing it for me right now.”
“Why not?”
“Just because.”
“Okay.” I peered up at him. “Find a vampire, then. Or a pretty Fae boy. Jasper would be down for a hookup too. You have lots of options.”
“Don’t want to,” he said.
“Why?”
