Castor glanced at it before accepting. “You’re big for a human.”
“Hey.” Gray moved between us. “Only I can admire Mason’s bigness. You have your own mate. Shoo.”
“Someone’s jealous,” Daman said from his spot by the window. Warrin sat beside him, looking over his shoulder as the Nephilim drew on a tablet.
Gray stuck out his tongue at Daman. “Mind your business.”
Four ice dragons had accompanied Daman. Two were twins, and the other was Warrin’s closest friend and second-in-command, Lev. The twins were all over Bellamy, who didn’t seem to mind one bit. Lev sat with Alastair, discussing battle strategy.
“I’m Kyo,” the man with Castor greeted me. Black hair fell into his orange reptilian eyes, and a familiar bite mark was on his neck. A sign he’d been claimed by his mate. “If Red says anything dumb, I’ll slap him for you.”
“Oh, yes please.” Castor pulled Kyo into his arms, dropping his face to the very noticeable mark. “Slap me. Choke me. Fuck—”
“Enough of that,” Alastair interjected, standing from the couch. “Now that everyone’s here, we have things to discuss.”
“Come on, Al,” Raiden said from the doorway. “At least let us eat first. I cooked us a nice lunch. Pulled pork sandwiches, grilled chicken, and lots of sides. It’s been months since we’ve all been together like this.”
When I’d first met Alastair, I had thought he was an arrogant prick who didn’t give a damn about anyone. But that wasn’t true. He cared about his brothers. That was evident in the way he sighed and nodded, letting Raiden have his way.
Seven Nephilim, one water dragon, four ice dragons, a witch, and two humans. The dining table wasn’t big enough for all of us, but we made do. Extra chairs were pulled up, and everyone squeezed in together, piling their plates high with food and talking.
A fight was on the horizon, one some of us might not survive, but for that small moment, all of that was shoved aside. Maybe that was why Alastair had allowed the reprieve from battle talk. The future outcome of the war was uncertain, and the next time we all sat together like this, some of these chairs might be empty.
“How does it feel to be surrounded by so many hot dudes?” Bellamy asked Clara. “It’s like your own harem.”
She scoffed. “If I’m going to have a harem, I’d rather it be a bunch of hot girls, thanks.”
“Sucks to be you,” Bellamy said, putting his arms around the twins on each side of him.
Clara rolled her eyes, but she smiled a little. “You’re such a manwhore.”
The twins—Ivan and Efrem—both had blue eyes and wavy blond hair that brushed the tops of their shoulders. Lev was blond too. Was pale hair a shared trait among ice dragons?
I then looked at Warrin. He had silver hair with light blue undertones, just like a glacier on a sunny day. Despite his size—which nearly equaled Galen’s—he had a quiet demeanor. Icy, almost. But one look at Daman and that ice melted.
“You’re staring a lot,” Gray whispered, scooting his chair right up against mine. His face downturned into an adorable pout. “You better not be thinking they’re hot.”
“I only have eyes for you.” I suppressed a smile. “I just didn’t expect dragons to look so… human.”
“Did you think we’d have horns and a tail?” Kyo asked, sitting across from me.
My cheeks heated.
Castor laughed. “Well, you’re not too far off. When they shift into their hybrid forms, they have scales, horns, claws, and sharp teeth.”
“Hybrid forms?”
“Yes,” Warrin answered. The ice prince had a thick Russian accent and a deep voice. “We mainly fight in our hybrid form, but we can also shift into a full-sized dragon.”
“Not me,” Kyo said. “I’m only half dragon. So I can’t fully transform.”
Castor pressed their heads together. “But you’re still my little badass.”
Gray lightly bounced in his seat as he took a bite of a barbeque pulled-pork sandwich bigger than he was. “Kyo has a spirit sword. It looks like a tattoo down his spine, but when he’s in his hybrid form, he can pull it from his skin and fight. It’s a katana. Cool, right? I wish I could do that with my sword, then I wouldn’t have to carry it around all the time.”
“That’s Sloth for ya,” Raiden said with a grin. That grin lingered as he studied everyone around the table. Seeing people enjoy his food clearly made him happy.
Gray took another bite, still bouncing. I couldn’t help but kiss his hair.
