Epilogue

Nora

Two months have passed since Daddy and Papa told me they were part of the Ricci Crime Family. Two months of them loving me and showing me what life is like at the lodge.

Amazing.

Different.

Boring.

Hard.

Insufferable at times.

Peaceful.

Chaotic.

But so worth it.

Every single day, I wake up between Papa and Daddy, snuggling into both of them. It’s the best way to wake up, and I get to do it almost every day.

Papa and Daddy ended up accepting the job Thorin had been trying to get them to take for a while now. It’s made it easier on all of us. Some days I accompany one of them to work, and other days one stays with me at home.

Home .

I sigh and snuggle into Daddy’s chest. This is my home now, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

The day Mateo and Lainey came to Whiskey River Mountain Lodge was the day they accepted the new position.

They hadn’t wanted to tell me before it was solidified in case something came up and it couldn't happen.

Roman took Lainey to his cabin for several days to make sure she wouldn’t talk. I tried asking several times what happened during that time, but he wouldn’t tell me. Wouldn’t give me any information regarding Lainey.

I don’t even know where he took her. Is she alive? Safe? Daddy and Papa told me to stop worrying about it, but it’s so hard.

“What are you thinking about?” Papa asks, running his hand up and down my back.

“You guys. My life here. How much I love you two,” I whisper.

“We love you, too.” Daddy kisses my lips.

“Hmm, I think you’re also thinking about something else,” Papa points out.

“I’m sorry,” I sigh. “I know I’m not supposed to think about it but it’s hard. She used to be my friend.”

“Lainey?” Daddy asks.

I bury my head into his chest. “I’m sorry. I am just worried about her.”

“She’s safe where she is.” Papa kisses my shoulder. “That’s all we can tell you. She is safe.”

I let out a sigh and nod. It’s better than nothing.

“Now try not to worry about it too much,” Daddy chuckles. “Though, knowing you, it will be hard.”

“It will be,” I mumble. “But I’ll try.”

“Good girl,” Papa praises. “What do you want to do today?”

“Snuggle with you both. Nothing else,” I reply. “I just want to be next to you both since it’s where I belong.”

“Love you.” Daddy kisses my forehead.

“Love you, too.” I grab Papa’s hand. “I love you.”

“Love you.”
