Chapter Fourteen
Nora
A week has passed since Daddy and Papa went to deal with Mateo and Lainey. It’s been peaceful ever since.
“Daddy is going to go meet up with Papa real quick for a meeting with Thorin,” he gently says, pulling me into his chest. “Roman will be within earshot if you need anything. He lives to the right of us, so if you need anything, you go to him.”
“Scarlett is coming over?” I ask, stepping onto my tippy toes.
“She is. You two behave,” Daddy gave me a pointed look.
Papa is already at the meeting since he was working.
“Maybe I should have Roman come here and babysit you two while we’re at the meeting,” Daddy mumbles.
“We don’t need that!” Scarlett whines. “We’re going to be perfectly fine on our own.”
A smile spread across my face as Scarlett stands at the bottom of the front porch.
“Scarlett! Come in!” I yell, stepping forward.
“Already forgotten,” Daddy grumbles.
“Not forgotten.” I roll my eyes. “Just momentarily put to the side since my bestie is here.”
I giggle as I see Daddy’s shocked expression.
“Why, you little brat.” He boops my nose.
“You’ll always be my Daddy. You’ll always have a special place right in my stomach with Papa,” I say, pointing at my stomach.
“Stomach?” Scarlett asks.
I shrug. “Couldn’t say heart ‘cause I was trying to rile him up. Maybe I should've said pussy. You and Papa will always have a special place in my pussy.” I giggle, wrapping my arms around Scarlett.
“Ewwww,” Scarlett whines. “I don’t need to hear this.”
Daddy grips my chin. “We’ll talk about this later, little bit. You be good. Both of you.”
“Yes, Daddy.” I smile.
“Yes, Sir.” Scarlett salutes.
Daddy shakes his head as he walks down the steps and off to his meeting. I watch him the whole way until he is out of my sight. I’m still getting used to them being away from me, which is silly to think about since before I met them, I didn’t have a problem being alone.
But something changed when I came here to Whiskey Lodge Mountain Lodge. I rely on them and don’t want to be away from them. Call me crazy, but I feel so lost without them, like I don’t know how to function normally when they aren’t around.
“Are you going to be okay?” Scarlett asks.
I shrug. “I guess. It still feels weird to be away from them. I know they are just in the main building. And if I really need something, I can go to them, but it’s still hard,” I whisper toward the end. “They’ve turned something on in me that I need them all the time.”
“Trust me, I know the feeling. When Daddy is away, it’s so hard.
He took Juniper with him so I could have time with you, but honestly, it makes it easier being away from him when I have her with me,” Scarlett confesses.
“But he already had her strapped in by the time I woke up from my nap, and I couldn't say no. Not when they look so cute together.”
I giggle and sit on the top step. “So completely normal that we know of,” I mutter. “The joys. Sometimes I wish they could carry me in a carrier on their chest or back so I never have to be away from them.”
“Don’t let them hear you say that,” Scarlett sternly says, sitting beside me. “They will take it seriously and get a carrier for you.”
“Oh,” I whisper.
I should have known that, but it still shocks me. They want me close just as much as I want to be close to them.
“Roman is apparently keeping an eye on us. I don’t know where he is, but you don’t think he will be able to see us if we’re inside?” I ask. “I don’t know what he looks like. I figure if I find someone staring at us, it’s him.”
“I don’t know. Have your Daddies told you they’ve put cameras in the house?”
My eyes go wide. “Cameras in the house?”
“I don’t know if they have. I know Daddy did because I was naughty and got in a dangerous situation, so when he does leave me alone, he’ll let the person watching me have access.
The cabins don’t come with them, and your Daddies would have told you if they had put them in,” Scarlett explains.
“I wouldn’t bring it up though. Don’t want to give them any ideas. ”
“Hopefully, they didn’t,” I mutter. “Or they’ll have to talk to me about it, and I won’t be happy.”
Scarlett giggles, stands, and walks down the stairs. That's when I hear it: a car getting closer.
“Are we expecting anyone?” I ask, standing beside to her.
She shakes her head. “Daddy didn’t mention anyone, but he doesn’t tell me every time someone arrives. We can greet them!”
Unease fills me as I see the old, beat-up car. It looks so familiar, and yet it looks like an everyday car that I would see back in my hometown. My eyes go wide as whoever is driving the car parks and gets out.
“Shit,” I mumble. “Get behind me.”
I push Scarlett behind me, slowly backing us into the house. Will we be able to get up the stairs and into the house in time? Will they catch us before we take a couple of steps?
“Who are they?” Scarlett asks.
“Did you really think sending your men after us would get us to back off?” Lainey asks, scoffing at the end. “You always have been pretty dumb when it comes to this stuff.”
“Telling us they are part of the Ricci Crime Family is a joke. They don’t do business in Montana. Fucking idiots,” Mateo growls. “Now come here like the dirty girl you are and we’ll make everything better.”
I shake my head, taking a step back with Scarlett still behind me.
“Don’t you fucking think about it!” Mateo yells, pulling out a knife.
He takes several steps closer to us, and I scream as he lifts the blade.
“Come with us quietly, and then we won’t hurt your friend,” Lainey says. “We just need to show you what you’re doing is wrong.”
Tears pool in my eyes as I push Scarlett away from me. I need to get her away from me so she won’t get caught up in everything if I make a dash for it.
“St-stop,” she stutters, fear laced in her voice.
“Nora fucking Robins. Get your fat ass over here before I make you regret it,” Mateo growls.
What am I going to do? What do I do? How are we going to get out of this?
“You don’t have to do this,” I quietly say. “You can get back into your car and leave before anything happens.”
Mateo shakes his head. “No can do. They came and beat me up, so now, I’m coming to take you.”
He takes another step toward us, and I scream again as someone tackles him to the ground. I watch as they fight over the knife, not knowing what to go to be safe. My legs give way, and I land harshly on the ground as the two figures continue to fight over the knife.
“Let my brother go!” Lainey yells.
I watch as Scarlet runs over to Lainey, pushing her away from the two men fighting. How long is this going to last? Who’s going to win? Who is the other guy fighting Mateo?
Wrapping my arms around my knees, I suck in a breath as I notice blood on the ground surrounding the two men. I blink back my tears, trying to figure out who got hurt.
“No!” Lainey screams, dropping to the ground, but I don’t pay any attention to her.
Mateo lies on the ground as the other guy walks toward me. Whimpering, I close my eyes as he kneels beside me.
“You’re okay,” he gently says. “I’m Roman. Everything is okay.”
My whole body shakes as I take in his words.
“Your Daddies are on their way. Everything will be okay now.” His voice fills my ears once again. “Scarlett, get over here and be next to Nora while I take care of the girl.”
Scarlett sits beside me as we watch him zip-tie Lainey’s hands together.
“Stay here, and nothing else will happen to you,” Roman growls. “Move, and you won’t like the consequences.”
Roman walks over to Mateo and checks his pulse before walking back to us. “You two are safe now,” he gently says. “Do you want to go inside?”
I blink several times as I stare at him. I don’t think I’ll be able to stand up on my two legs, let alone walk all the way up the stairs and into the cabin.
“Nora?” he quietly asks. “Are you okay?”
I open and close my mouth, not able to form any words. My eyes zero in on his arm, which has blood coming out of it. The color from my face drains, and I quickly close my eyes.
“Where is she?” Papa yells.
Before I know it, Papa has his arms around me, holding me close to his body. Daddy is behind him, rubbing my back.
“Everything is okay,” Daddy whispers. “We’re here.”
“I knew I should have taken you with us. What was I thinking, letting you be alone?” Papa mumbled. “No more. You always come with us, or we’ll have someone with you, glued to your hip.”
I snuggle into his embrace, not caring that he is being way more protective than he needs to be.
“What the fuck happened?” Thorin yells.
“They came out of nowhere and threatened us. Before anything could happen Roman tackled him,” Scarlett explains, her voice wobbly.
I gasp and push away from Papa’s chest. “Your arm.” I gesture to Roman.
“I’ll be okay, princess. Aiden will patch me up after I take Lainey,” he calmly explains.
“You sure?” Daddy asks. “We can do that.”
“You spend time with her. Nora needs you.” He nods.
Papa’s hands tightens around me, holding me even closer than before. I snuggle back into his chest and relax. Everything is going to be okay now that they’re here.
“Are you hurt?” Thorin asks Scarlett.
“No, Nora protected me the whole time,” Scarlett replies.
“Until you ran at Lainey to knock her away,” I mumble.
“What was that?” Thorin asks.
Scarlett shakes her head, but I’m not going to get caught up in that.
“Nora,” Thorin growls. “What did you say?”
“Roman is going to tell him either way,” I point out as I look at Scarlett. “She ran toward Lainey to get her away from Roman as he fought Mateo.”
I turn to look at Mateo. Dead Mateo .
“Is he really dead?” I whisper.
“Yes, little bit,” Daddy replies. “No looking. We’ve got someone coming to take care of him.”
I look away and take a deep breath.
“We’ll talk about this later,” Thorin says and Scarlett groans. “If you need anything, let me know. I’ll be taking the rest of the afternoon off.”
“Us, too,” Papa replies.
“Let’s take care of you, little bit.” Daddy kisses my cheek.
