Another smile. “I’ve missed working with you.”

“I know. That’s why I’m saying yes to this. It’s theonlyreason I’m saying yes—because it’syouasking me.”

“Think of it this way. You finally get to flip off FNB. You know you’ve wanted to for years, just like I did. They’re sinking fast. I found out yesterday there’s a massive SEC investigation dropping on Bob Corter, and it involves Charlie Corter and three of the board membersof FNB, among others. The network will probably survive, but they will go through a massive shitstorm before they hit the other side. Jump ship now.”

Her eyes widen. “Holy shit!”

“Exactly.”

Now she smacks my shoulder, hard, making me laugh. “That should’ve been your lede, asshole!”

I grin. “Well, I was hoping to get you to say yes first.”

“You always have a way of making me say yes.”

“Goodthing you love me, huh?”

“Yeah.” She rests her head against me again. “Damngood thing I do.”
