Page 62 of Deceptive Games
“Guys, I’m fine. I can handle Slash’s tantrums,” I said dryly, knowing I probably couldn’t if they kept escalating, but I didn’t want them getting involved.
I just needed to train more, I wasn’t strong enough to take down a grown man right now if they caught me off guard. Once I was on the ground, it was too late.
I could hold my own if I saw them coming, but I definitely had to work on being surprised.
“You call that a tantrum?” Caden asked sarcastically. “The man locked you in that room to terrify you and hoped my father assaulted you again. This isn’t some kind of fucked-up foreplay, he wants you to get hurt.”
“He wants to scare me, sure. It won’t work. All he did was give me the opportunity to slay one of the biggest monsters in my life. He made me stronger, not weaker,” I argued, just as the door opened and Skeeter walked in.
“He’s trying to show me that you don’t belong in our world so I’ll let you go. It’s only going to get worse now that I’ve sided with you over him and the crew. They’re pissed at me,” he said flatly, my heart hurting for him. He deserved to be happy with someone, so I didn’t understand why it bothered them so much.
“Can’t you let her go then?” Jensen snapped, earning a glare from me.
“He doesn’t have to do shit. Why the fuck should he leave me just because they said so?” I demanded, amusement flashing across Skeeter’s face as he dropped down onto my bed to get comfortable.
“Leave you? I know you stick to me like Velcro, but we’re not even together.”
“I just can’t fuck anyone else, right?”
“Hey, I learned to share with the rich pricks. I think I’ve been accommodating for your pussy’s needs,” he answered with a smirk.
“Asshole,” I muttered, and Caden changed the subject to avoid us all fighting.
“So, can someone clean my Challenger to get the crime scene out? It’s your specialty.”
“Yeah, I can handle it. Don’t get used to it though, I’m only doing it because I asked you to pick her up,” he warned.
“You break into my damn house and fuck my girl. The least you can do is be on call for a cleanup in the future,” Caden huffed, and I ignored the part about me being his girl.
“Can you two not argue right now?” Jensen ordered, looking at me as his expression softened. “You’re really okay? It’s fine if you’re not.”
“He can’t hurt me again. Do you know how fucking good that feels? I shouldn’t feel good about the fact that I murdered someone, but I can’t help it,” I replied carefully, flicking my gaze to Skeeter. “You guys buried him deep, right?”
“Nope.”
“What the fuck does that mean?” I asked in a panic, and he gave me a look that said I was dumb.
“A guy like Tristan going missing means the cops get involved. It would turn into a huge thing with news coverage and everything. Don’t worry, it won’t fall back on you. We’ve handled it. Just don’t kill anyone else without giving me some warning if you can help it. It’s an easier process if I already have a plan,” he said as if it was normal to just kill people.
“You sure I won’t?—”
“Aurora, we handled it,” he said firmly, obviously done with the conversation.
“How’s D?” I asked as I tried to calm the inner panic, making him scowl.
“Just text each other. I’m not the middle man.”
“Fine.” I pulled my phone out to text him, and Skeeter was suddenly on his feet and snatched it from my hands with a growl. “Do you want me to text him or not, caveman?”
“I don’t give a fuck.”
“Then give my phone back,” I said sweetly, his eyes narrowing. He knew I was taunting him for the fun of it, and he’d played right into my bullshit.
He gave it back as he wrapped my hair around his fist, tugging my head back to look down at me. “Don’t play games with me. You won’t win.”
“Possessive sex sounds like a win, if you ask me,” I chuckled.
“You won’t get to come.”
