Movement in the bed woke me slightly as an arm slid around my waist possessively, my body instantly leaning back against the familiar hold.
“Skeet?” I mumbled, trying to roll over, but he wouldn’t let me.
“Yeah, baby girl. Go back to sleep.” His voice was rough as if he’d been yelling a lot, but his kisses on my neck were soft and sweet.
“What are you doing here? What time is it?”
“It’s just after two. I was at the Shed and thought I’d come and check on you.”
He sighed with annoyance as I rolled over to face him, and I noticed a cut on his eyebrow in the moonlight.
“Did you and Slash get into it?” I murmured, lifting my hand to touch it. He let me, his eyes on my face as he studied me.
“We exchanged words, it’s fine.”
“How’d you get in?”
“Magic,” he deadpanned, his hand dipping into the back of my sleep shorts to feel the cut he’d left on my ass yesterdaymorning. “The crew aren’t happy that you’re involved, but they agreed to leave you alone for now.”
“You defended me yesterday in front of the guys.”
It was a big deal to me. He’d stood up for me before, but this was different.
“Don’t get fucking mushy with me or I’ll leave,” he grumbled, leaning forward to catch my lower lip between his teeth. He bit down harder as my hand wandered his chest, a gasp leaving me from the sharp pain. “We can’t keep doing this, Aurora.”
“Sure we can,” I murmured, tugging at his shirt. “Strip off and stay the night.”
“We’ll wake Josie and your protective stepcunt.”
“Josie’s not home, and I don’t give a fuck if we wake Caden.”
“She got home a couple of hours ago.” How he knew that, I wasn’t sure.
“I just meant so we can sleep,” I laughed quietly.
“I don’t do that shit.”
“No? Then why did you break into my house and crawl into my bed, just to tell me to go back to sleep?” I teased, and he sighed as if I was the one in denial, before he sat up and pulled his shirt over his head, kicking his pants off in the process.
“The things I do for you,” he finally said as he laid back down and wrapped his arms around me, huffing out a breath as I smacked his abs lightly with the back of my hand.
“Hey, I killed a guy for you, you know?”
“I killed someone for you,” he threw back, my eyes flying open to meet his in the dark.
“What? When?”
“The fighter at the Shed that talked to you.”
“He was alive when I went outside.”
“He wasn’t by the time I did,” he chuckled, tugging my nipple ring through my shirt and making me hiss at the sting. “If you’regoing to talk about murder, you might as well take your clothes off. You know it gets me going.”
“Can we just cuddle? I won’t tell anyone,” I said dryly, a little surprised when he nipped my neck but agreed.
“Fine, but only because I don’t want Josie coming in here yelling at me for railing you.”
“You’re scared of Josie?”
