“Well, it won’t be for long sinceIwill be working there.”
“Nirah—”
“I’m not fighting you on this, De Luca,” I sighed as we got off his property, and I picked up speed.
“You don’t need the extra job anymore,” he tried to reason with me, and I opened my mouth to speak but shut it immediately. “And think about it… there’s someone out there who really needs the job more than you.”He’s right…“How dare you steal that opportunity away from them, Nirah Joy?” he humorously asked, and my jaw dropped.
“No,” I shook my head. “How dareyouuse my selflessness against me?” I narrowed my eyes at him, and he victoriously grinned. “Fine. You’ve got a point.” He seemed oddly satisfied with himself for the rest of the drive. “Does that little mouth always get you what you want?”
His answer sounded almost arrogant as I pulled up to the cafe. “Yeah, most of the time.”
“Most of the time,” I mimicked his deep voice as I grabbed my bag before opening the door and getting out.
I walked into the cafe and it wasn’t as busy as expected. Madeline was at the register, smiling at a customer. I greeted her by kissing her cheek before I headed into my boss’s office.
Although this was Jordan’s cafe, he didn’t care for all the formalities, hence Malaysia.
I eventually left Malaysia’s office, and exited the building to find Antonio leaning against the car, smoking a blunt. I tossed him the keys, and he opened the passenger door for me.
“I’m too sad to drive,” I dramatically sighed, and the corners of his lips tilted upwards.
I slipped inside, and he closed the door behind me before getting into the drivers seat.
“It looks good on you,” he admitted, starting the ignition.
“Resignation?” I heavily sighed, and he chuckled, shaking his head at me.
“The ring, Nirah.”
“Oh,” I said, lifting my hand. I held my hand out in front of myself, studying the ring. I moved my hand in front of him, resting it on the steering wheel, and smiled. “It does, doesn’t it?”
I guess I could get used to this whole fiancée thing.
CHAPTER 12
Nirah
“HE LIVES,” SAMANTHA sarcastically smiled at Antonio as she strutted towards us in a white blouse and black pencil skirt. “And he brings the hooker—this is aprofessionalworkspace, Mr. De Luca,” she teased, and he heavily sighed.
“Respect my fiancée. I won’t tell you again,” he warned, and she grinned down at me in amusement. “Would you like anything to drink?” he asked me, and I shook my head. “Get her an iced coffee,” he said, and she put her hands on her hips.
“I thought I worked for you?” she asked in annoyance.
“Go,” he demanded.
“Fine,” she almost seethed through her teeth and whipped around, leaving us.
He nodded toward his office, and I walked inside. I trailed my eyes around, hearing a couple of murmurs behind me.
Eventually, Antonio entered and sat down behind his desk while two men occupied the seats across from him. While they spoke business, uttering a few Italian here and there, I got up and looked around his office.
I’ve never been more intrigued by an office before. Are they usually this big and fancy?
Samantha eventually brought my ice coffee, and after what felt like years, Antonio was finally finished.
I smiled as I greeted both men, and he walked back to his seat. I dramatically fell down onto the couch, sighing. “This office thing is boring,” I groaned, staring at the ceiling. “You do this every day?” I asked and heard his chair move back.
“Come here, tesoro,” he said, and I lazily got up. I walked behind his desk as I looked at the wall to his left. There were three shelves with some frames on them, too.
