It hurt so much I couldn’t talk, so she simply wrapped her arms around me in a comforting hug. When I had calmed down, I explained everything to her.Allof it.
“How could you, Silvia? I was drunk.”
“Nirah, you threatened to do it yourself,” she explained. “I tried to talk you out of it, but it didn’t work. What I said was nothing compared to the awful things you wrote.”
I swallowed hard with a racing heart.
“The things you mentioned, Nirah… I’m not a big fan of the guy, but even I felt bad.”
My shoulders slumped.Shit. My feelings deep down were slowly resurfacing, and if I didn’t get them under control, I’d lose everything…
“So what happened after?”
“I lied. I said that I didn’t have any sort offeelingstoward him and that I wanted us to continue being engaged because I made a deal with him.”
“Nirah!” she reprimanded and I sighed.
“I know… I know…” I admitted. “I fucked up,” I nodded my head with instant regret.
“Why did you lie?”
“Because I don’t know if he feels the same way, and I was not going to let him hold that over me—”
“He wouldn’t have—”
“How could you be so sure, huh?” I asked in disbelief. “He’s thedevil, right? So he wouldn’t fucking care, much less feel the same. Sorry, I didn’t want him to treat me like the others who are fuckingin lovewith him,” I snapped. “You know how much it fucking hurt me the last time, so please, forgive me for fucking this up too, out of fear.”
“Nirah, I didn’t mean…”
“Silvia, I was hospitalized after my last so-called relationship, and I know that Antonio isn’t him, but it’s difficult to move on to someone new when deep down I haven’t had closure yet.”
“Hey,” she cooed, pulling me into her arms. “I know, I’m sorry.”
She held me in her arms, and allowed comfortable silence between us before I pulled back. “You’re in love with him?” she asked—a heartwarming smile dancing on her lips—and I realized that I let it slip.
“Yes? No? Fuck,” I breathed, falling back. “Iamin love with Antonio…” I admitted and she chuckled.
“It’s about time you finally admitted it,” she rolled her eyes. “Communication is key, right?” she asked and I nodded, sitting back up. “Then call him, and tell him the truth. No man, goes above and beyond, like this man does, for a woman he doesn’t feel anything for.”
I was hesitant but before I could speak she got called to perform. She unwillingly left me with a comforting hug and closed the door behind herself. She’s right.
After composing myself, I left the room to get myself a drink. I really needed to think this through.
Logan walked away as he spoke on his cellphone, andUndertakerfollowed behind me. I reached for my cellphone, but it wasn’t on my person.Shit. It must have fallen out in the car. “Hey, can you please go and get my cellphone in the car?” I asked, but he seemed reluctant.
“I can’t leave you alone, Miss.”Yes, of course.
“Well—” I’m cut off as a syringe sinks into his neck from behind. His eyes rolled back in his head as his body dropped to the floor with a thud.
Confused, I looked up, and a man dressed in black from head to toe stood in front of me. I retreated with every step he took until he slowly lifted his head, grinning.
An unsettling feeling stirred in my core, and I looked around, trying to find one of the security guys. “What’s wrong, princess?”
My stomach dropped for a second, and all the color drained from my face. I slowly turned my head to him, and goosebumpsspread across my skin. I knew that voice. I turned to run, but he grabbed my arm. “Uh uh. I don’t think so,” he shook his head.
I dug my heel into his foot, and he groaned, letting go of me.Sylvester.
I sprinted to the back, hearing him follow me. I looked back, knocking into someone. I stumbled back and Logan grabbed my arms to steady me. “Miss Nirah, are you okay?”
