Page 16 of Dancing with the Devil
The conversation ended, andMr. Jackassfound himself back atmytable.
I hopped up and strolled over. “And what can I get you,my attractive stalker?”
“I’ve been upgraded toattractivestalker,” he casually stated. “And, you canstartby getting me a Bourbon,” he ordered, pulling his cellphone, which had just vibrated out of his breast pocket. “And don’t take your time. You don’t see me getting any younger.”
“No way,” I gasped.
He kept his voice flat—uninterested. “What?”
“Out of every single table here, you’re always at this one because you know it’s mine, and you love ordering me around.”
His tone shifted as he kept his eyes on his screen. “Really?”
“Oh, yeah. I’m onto you,” I narrowed my eyes at him.
“You’re not that important for me to waste my time on,” he looked up at me. “Correction. I don’t find you that interesting.”
“Easy, sweetheart. No need to get so defensive,” I grinned. “Do you get off on ordering me around?”
“You’re curious as to what gets me off?” he shot back—his voice laced with humor—and my face heated up.
“Nope,” I popped the P. “Never mind,” I shook my head, turning my back on him as I headed over to the bar.
“Hey, NJ,” London—one of the dancers—called out to me as I madeMr.Stalker’sdrink. “I need a favor.”
London was one of my good friends as well. She’s a single mother to a little boy that I adored.
With fidgeting long, manicured nails, she looked up at me and suddenly brushed her dirty blonde hair out of her face.
“Mind setting up the sexiest baby mamma you know up with that hot guy?” she leaned in to whisper, and my brows furrowed.Sure, why not?
“Have your pick, and I’ll do my best,” I assured her as I extended my hand toward the crowd.
“Ugh,” she groaned, rolling her eyes as she turned her back on the crowd. “No, Nirah.Yourhot guy. The one at your table. You two seem really close, so please?”Ironic, since I don’t even know his name.
“Sure,” I agreed.
“Don’t forget to mention I’m a mother!” she called out from behind.
I approached his table, setting his drink down in front of him, and slipped into the seat in front of him, leaning my forearms on the table.
“So, my friend London thinks you’re hot. She wants to know if you’re single and interested in a sexy baby mamma.”Her words, not mine. I was threatened.
“Yes to the single. No to the…” he trailed off with knitted brows. “Other thing.”
“Oh, come on. She’s smart, talented, cute, andfreakishly flexible, if u know what I mean.”
“Yes, to the single. No, to the other thing.” he sternly repeated himself.
“Fine.”
“Doyouget off on setting up really hot single men?” he almost arrogantly asked. He was definitely mocking me.
“I finally get it…” I trailed off.
For the first time since I had met him, he seemed intrigued. “What?”
“Why you’re single,” I smiled before getting up and heading to my next table. I know my life’s motto is hot and sexy trumps arrogance, but boy, was I wrong.
