“Now, you’re calling her a liar?” I asked, my voice growing darker, and I watched his chest rise and fall heavily. His jaw trembled as he tried to speak—as if I’d listen to anything he had to say.
“I’d never disrespect Miss Nirah,” he shook his head. “I—I was just—please boss, don’t do this,” he begged.
Walking over to the side of the tank, I made my way up the stairs. I reached the top, grabbing a piece of raw meat. I tossed it into the tank, and four sharks immediately tore it apart, shredding it into pieces. I watched as Logan’s eyes grew wide in fear. He was afraid. He should be.
“Beautiful things, aren’t they?” I asked, looking down at the sharks calmly swimming as if they did not just rip a piece of meat to shreds seconds ago. “And they areallfemales,” I humorously said.
He looked around and then down into the tank, and his head snapped to me in realization.
“No, you can’t,” he shook his head. “Please, don’t kill me—please,” he pleaded, and I noticed the color drain from his face. “You can’t—” his voice cracked.
Cesar stopped in front of the tank, and I walked back down. He handed me the remote before stepping back. With one click, the cage opened, and Logan dropped into the tank with a splash.
He opened his eyes underwater, snapping his head left and right, and I watched the sharks swim by.Did I forget to mention he has galeophobia? He had to be hospitalized nine times in the last month because of his panic attacks, relating to his phobia.
He hurriedly swam towards the glass, banging his fist on it, and his face scrunched up in fear. I lifted my hand, signaling for him to stop exaggerating.
He turned, noticing the sharks were uninterested and looked back at me. I watched bubbles rise from his mouth as he exhaled, and my brows knitted together. Is he relieved right now? We can’t have that, can we?
“Get up there,” I ordered Cesar.
As soon as Cesar reached the top, I had him drop a piece of raw meat into the tank—a great distance from Logan and he spun around, pressing his back into the glass to watch them do the exact same thing as before.
One of the sharks swam towards Logan at a great speed, and his head turned to the right as he pressed the side of his face to the glass. The shark swerved last minute, swimming away.
The corners of my lips lifted into an amused grin as I watched her, but when Logan spun around, clutching his throat, my smile dropped in annoyance.
I nodded toward the tank, and Cesar lowered a ladder into the water for him to climb up. Once he got to the top, Cesar grabbed him and handcuffed him. I watched Logan hyperventilate and a heavy sigh from my lips. His body trembled, and Cesar took a large step back. I looked up at the ceiling for a second until his annoying gasps for air filled the silence. Is he seriously having a panic attack right now?
After a long while of being quite dramatic, he finally calmed down and laid on his side, curling into fetal position and hugging his knees.
“You done?” I asked, and he shivered, looking over at me. “Get him on his feet,” I ordered, and Cesar did exactly that.
I watched Cesar strap a belt—covered in raw, fish meat—to Logan’s waist. Cesar then emptied a bucket of fish blood over Logan’s head, and I felt a fracture of satisfaction. Finally, we’re getting somewhere.
“No, no, no,” he pleaded, and I walked to the center of the room so that I could have a clear view. Cesar shoved Logan into the cage—he didn’t go in willingly, so that took a few seconds longer than it had to.
“Get in the damn cage, Morales. I have a fiancée to get to,” I raised my voice. Cesar locked him up and lifted the cage, hovering it over the tank once again. “Who’s doing this to you?” I asked, and his face scrunched up. I couldn’t see through the blood—but I was certain he was crying. I couldn’t even contain my grin this time.He was crying. Fucking pathetic.
The faint word floated into the air. “Diavolo.”
With a beep, the cage opened and he dropped into the water.
A beat had barely passed, and I watched my four female sharks tear him limb from limb. The tank filled up with blood, flesh and organs.
They were aggressive as they hurried through the bloody water, swallowing every last piece of him.
His head—he was missing an ear—floated up in front of me, and a grin tugged on the corners of my lips.
Seconds later Vixen—named by Cesar and I—opened her mouth, swallowing his head whole. That’s my girl.
CHAPTER 26
Nirah
“YOU NAMED YOUR shark after me?” I gasped, and he looked over at Cesar—standing in the doorway—then back at me.
“Remember the excitement in your reaction right now the next timeyoucallmesick,” he couldn’t help but tease.
