“In a car,”I responded, shifting gears.
“Sterling doesn’t have a chance.” Raiden looked over his shoulder as the Lykan’s turbocharged engine put the wolf’s car to shame.
“Come home.”
“Kinda busy right now, Al.”
“Doing what?”he asked.
“Racing.”
I felt him roll his eyes.“Stop messing around, and get your ass home.”
“My ass is on the line right now.”I sped up as Sterling started to gain on us.“Quite literally. If I lose, I have to bottom. And this guy has a massive dong. I’ve seen it. That shit’s gonna hurt.”
“Fine. Finish your race, then—”
“Get home,”I cut him off.“Understood.”
“Dude, watch the bridge,” Raiden said. “It’s narrow, and Sterling’s catching up.”
“Al wants us home.” I kicked the car up a speed. “Gotta make this quick.”
Reaching the bridge before Sterling, I passed over it and jerked the wheel sharply to the left when I reached the dead end where we were supposed to turn around and head back to the start. I’d wanted to make the race last longer, but Alastair hated being kept waiting. Unfortunately. And after being captured and tortured by demons a few months back, Pride had me on a short leash.
I slowed as I reached the finish line and parked on the side of the street, stepping out of the car right as Sterling arrived.
“I knew you’d win, Cassy!” Jasper threw his arms around me and nipped at my neck.
A few wolves from Sterling’s pack snarled and passed money to the smug-faced vamps beside them. They’d bet on the race too.
“You fucker,” Sterling growled, parking beside me.
“I believe you have something of mine.” I held out my hand and wiggled my fingers.
“I hate you.” He got out of his car and neared me, sliding off his ring before handing it over. “That ring’s priceless.”
“So is my ass.” I fit the ring on my index finger and smiled down at it. Sure, it wasn’t anything extravagant, just a gold band with an emblem engraved on the top, but my greedy nature wanted it anyway.
Sterling grabbed my bicep and yanked me toward him. We stood at roughly the same height—both of us around six foot five—but he had way more muscle. His eyes faintly glowed in the night as he scowled at me. But then he smiled. “I was looking forward to fucking you senseless.”
“Sorry to disappoint.”
“You could always have a go at me,” Raiden said, leaning against my car with his arms crossed over his wide chest. Jasper had left my side and gone to his instead. The cat shifter nuzzled my brother’s arm and emitted happy little purrs. “Be prepared to have your ass drilled in return though.”
Sterling’s gaze darkened. He looked hungry. “I might take you up on that.”
“Thanks for the race. Let’s do it again sometime.” I patted the wolf’s shoulder before stepping away.
“Are you really going to keep my ring?”
I tossed him a look over my shoulder. “If you want it back, offer me something better next time.”
Raiden—after kissing Jasper and smacking his bubble butt—got back into the car. I slid into the driver’s seat and started the engine. Sterling glared at me, but I saw the desire beneath his anger.
“On our way,”I told Alastair.
“Good.”
