“In the flesh.” Baxter bowed his head, though it seemed more mocking than anything. Like he was putting on a show. “To what do I owe the honor?”
“I’m Alastair.” He motioned to us. “This is Bellamy, Raiden, Castor, and his companion, Kyo.”
Baxter’s multicolored stare moved among each of us. “Where are the rest of you? I thought there were seven.”
“They stayed behind to deal with other matters,” Alastair answered. “We’ve come to seek your help.”
“How can I be of assistance? Aren’t you supposed to be the most powerful beings on this earth? Though, as I look at you now, none of you seem that powerful to me.”
“Can I punch him?”Raiden asked.“Just once?”
“No.”Alastair shot him a warning look. He then stepped toward Baxter. Just a single step, but it caused the Nephilim behind us in the doorway to move closer too. It was like we were in some kind of game. One player moved, and it shifted everyone else on the board. “Tell your men to stand down. If I wanted you dead, your head would already be at your feet.”
“Not very polite to come into a man’s home and make threats.”
Alastair’s expression remained neutral. “It wasn’t a threat. Only fact.”
“If you want my help, this is a piss-poor way of showing it.” Baxter came closer. “I suggest you get to the point before I lose my patience.”
Although it wounded his Pride to do so, Alastair nodded to him. “Allow me to apologize. I didn’t come to fight. I’m not sure if word has reached you yet on this island, but trouble is arising in the underworld.”
“Not my concern.” Baxter walked over to the patio couch and plopped down, kicking a leg up on the small table in front of him and putting his arms behind his head. “Demons aren’t my enemy.”
Which was true. Demons only hated me and my brothers because we’d joined forces with the angels. They had no issue with other Nephilim, seeing as to how they were the children of the fallen angels who’d sided with Lucifer.
“They aren’t your allies either.” Alastair squared his jaw. “Destruction and chaos are all they know. They want to enslave humanity.”
“Again. Not my problem.” Baxter glanced at Bellamy and smirked. “Damn, you’re pretty.”
“I hear that a lot,” Bellamy said. “Usually when I’m balls-deep inside someone.”
Baxter chuckled. “Such filthy words from that sweet mouth. Come over here and show me what else that mouth can do.”
“I’m not sure you can handle me.”
“Try me.” Baxter tipped his chin up, eyes hooded. “I like a good challenge.”
Raiden looked between the two of them. “This makes me uncomfortable.”
I snorted, which drew Baxter’s attention to me.
“You’re not so bad either, Red. You look like you’d be a wild one in bed.”
Kyo growled from beside me. “He’s already spoken for.”
The possessive way in which he stood closer to me and put an arm around my waist thrilled me. Made me think that he felt the same way about me as I did him.
“I wouldn’t mind if you joined in too,” Baxter told him.
“Definitely not,” I said with a snarl, holding Kyo tighter against my side. God help any man who tried touching him.
“This is such a bore.” Baxter looked at Alastair. “So what is it you want exactly?”
“The son of Lucifer has arisen. We believe he plans to build his army not only with demons, but with other supernatural beings as well. Starting with the Nephilim.”
“Ah.” Baxter sat forward, resting his arms on his legs. “You want me to ally withyouinstead of him. Interesting.”
“Interesting how?” Alastair narrowed his eyes.
