Of course he would pick up on my internal dilemma, once again proving that it was fucking impossible to keep secrets from each other.
“I doubt it.”I moved my gaze to the window. In truth? I didn’t know for sure, but the signs were hard to ignore.
When a Nephilim found their destined mate, a soul-deep connection was formed. A tether bound the two together. It was why Galen hadn’t been able to walk away from Simon, no matter how much he’d wanted to.
I used to think my lure to Kyo was because he’d saved my life in the fighting pit, but if I was being honest with myself, it had started the day I’d first seen him leave the antique store and hop on his bike. There had been a sudden tug inside my chest followed by a rush of… something. Like a shock through my whole system.
“Better face facts, love,”Bellamy said through our mind link.“There’s no fighting this. That dragon has you wrapped around his sexy finger now.”
“Fuck off.”
Once the plane was in the air and leveled off, I turned to Kyo. He side-eyed me before looking in the other direction. His black hair stuck out from the bottom of a green beanie, and smoky black liner brought out the orange in his eyes. His shirt hid it, but I knew a hickey marked the base of his throat. I’d given it to him last night while fucking him.
I liked knowing it was there.
“You going to tell me what’s wrong?” I asked. “Why were you so hell-bent on getting out of town?”
“Needed a change of scenery. Where in Greece are we going?”
The topic shift didn’t go unnoticed. But I wouldn’t push him on it. For now.
“Piraeus,” I answered. “It’s a port city near Athens. The Nephilim are located on an island not far from there.”
“Athens is beautiful,” Kyo said. “I wish I was around to see it back in ancient times.”
“Oh yeah. I forgot you’re just a baby dragon.”
He scoffed. “I’m going to kick your ass one day, Red.”
“Don’t tease me with a good time.”
Bellamy laughed. “You two are adorable. When’s the wedding?”
Kyo’s expression suddenly fell, as did his gaze. The fire left him as a distant look surfaced in his eyes. I’d much rather him be scowling at me than looking so… empty.
“You okay, little dragon?” I asked, intentionally using a lighter, playful tone and the nickname he hated to try to get a reaction out of him.
“Yeah. Just tired.” Kyo peered over at me, and a shimmer of life reappeared in those orange eyes. “Someone kept me up all damn night.”
“I wonder who that could be?” I smirked.
“A real dick. That’s who.”
“You say the most romantic things to me.” I nudged his shoe with mine. “Brings tears to my eyes.”
Though he visibly tried to fight it, Kyo smiled and shifted his gaze to the window.
My gaze stayed on him though. I knew him intimately. I knew the parts of his body that made him moan, the areas that made him arch his back and dig his nails into my skin. But I didn’t knowhim. Not the way I wanted to.
A few hours into the flight, Bellamy reclined in his seat and took a nap. Kyo watched the action movie I’d put on the TV, but his mind seemed to be elsewhere.
“Penny for your thoughts?” I asked. “Or better yet, you can pay me a penny.”
“Could I pay you to go away?”
“Harsh.” I got out of my chair and dropped down on the floor between his legs, placing my hands on his upper thighs. “No amount of money could keep me from you.”
Kyo’s eyes fell to my lips before lifting again. “You’re awfully persistent.”
