Chapter Thirty-Four

Logan sped down the tree-lined road on the most likely path AJ had taken. He approached a turn that would put him only three blocks from Will’s house. He slowed for the stop sign. He wasn’t going to stop completely, but then he spotted two cars. And two people.

Miles’s car. AJ’s car.

They were standing up against AJ’s vehicle. Miles was close and being affectionate with her.

With Logan’s wife.

Bile rose as his chest compressed.

Miles had said he’d stay away from her, that he respected Logan’s choice to not file for divorce. But his friend had betrayed him.

And even worse. His wife was with the man. Letting him touch her. And after they’d had sex yesterday. Was she a complete floozy? Had she been planning to meet Miles? Was that why she’d insisted she go to work?

Miles walked AJ to the passenger’s side of his car and opened the door for her. He leaned in the car over her.

Logan wanted to hurl. What was she doing? Had she lied about her commitment to him? Had it been a ruse to try and build his trust? To what end? So she could rip his heart out and smash it once more?

Miles got in the car, and when they drove off Logan whipped his bike around and rode back into the country. He wasn’t going to follow her and confront her. He’d cut her off again. He was done. If she was going to step out on him again, he was going to let her. Divorce might actually be on the table this time.
