“What are you grinning about?”

I turn to Charlie with a blank stare. “Huh?”

“You’ve had a silly grin on your face all morning.”

“Can’t a man just be happy, Charlie?”

We’ve known each other since we were pups, so I know he’s

not buying it.

“Mm-hmm.” He gives me a skeptical stare. “What happened last

night?”

“That is none of your business, sir.”

His eyes widen, and a grin spreads across his lips.

“I knew it! How was it? You know, I’ve never been with a

human.”

“Again, none of your business.”

“You know what? I don’t even need to ask. The look on your

face is enough.”

“Don’t you have work to do?” I ask in annoyance.

“I guess. I was gonna check out that weird sound on my

patrol car.”

“Well, get to it then.”

He stands with a chuckle and gives me a full salute. “Yes, sir!”

As he walks out of my office, I lean back in my chair and

think about last night. It’s all I’ve been thinking about. No wonder I’ve been

grinning like an idiot all morning. She’s finally mine. I know it, and she

knows it. I saw it in her eyes. I wonder if she liked the flowers I sent her

this morning. I don’t really know what kind she likes, so I got her a mixed

bouquet of red, white, and pink roses, tulips, orchids, and peonies.

“There you go again, back in dreamland.”

“What is it now, Charlie?”

The man is seriously getting on my nerves. Why won’t he stop

interrupting my thoughts?

“Well, I went to your truck to get the tool box and imagine

my surprise”—he reaches into his pocket and pulls out a flimsy black scrap of

cloth—“when I found this.”

Fuck! I bolt out of my chair and quickly snatch the

underwear from his fingers. He doubles over in laughter, and it brings Brick to

my door. Damn you, Charlie!

“Looks like things got a little rough there, boss.”

“What got rough?” Brick asks, his gaze shifting between Charlie

and me.

I slap my palm to my forehead as Charlie turns to Brick.

“Boss man finally got some action.”

“No way!” Brick exclaims, smiling from ear to ear. “No

wonder he’s been so happy all morning.”

I could easily make them stop. Just another of my abilities—one

little mental push and I can make them do whatever I want. However, I’ve never

had to do it to either of them, and I’m not going to start.

“Look, this is not some woman I picked up somewhere. What we

do or don’t do is not up for discussion. Got it?”

Their smiles fade and they straighten their shoulders, then

nod in understanding and walk out. I need to get some work done. The moment I

turn to my computer, my nose twitches; I can now smell her coming a mile away.

I sit and watch the entrance to the station until she strolls in, removing her

sunglasses. Every part of my body goes on high alert. She waves to everyone and

walks toward my office, a spring in her step. She’s wearing a white cotton

dress. There’s way too much skin visible for my comfort, but she looks amazing.

I’m already rock-hard by the time she glides through the door and closes it

behind her.

“Good morning, Sheriff.”

I stand, but before I can go to her, she comes to me. Wrapping

my arms around her waist, I pull her against me.

“Good morning.”

“Ooh…” She giggles. “Happy to see me?”

I grab her hips and pull her closer, showing her just how

happy I am. She shivers and smiles up at me.

“Always.”

“Thank you for the flowers. They’re beautiful.”

“You’re welcome.”

She clasps her fingers at the back of my neck, and I lean in

for a kiss. I take a deep breath, inhaling her scent. Today, she smells like

cherry blossoms. She tastes like strawberries and bananas. I gather her close

and feel as she melts into the embrace. She lets out a soft whimper as I bite

down gently on her bottom lip.

“So sweet,” I mumble.

Moaning, she tightens her arms around my neck as I suck on

her lip. I slide my palms up and down her sides, making her shiver. God, I love

the way her body responds to my touch. With a deep sigh, she pulls away, her

eyes still closed.

“Maybe I shouldn’t have come here.”

“Why?” I ask.

“With a kiss like that and a salutation like that”—she

points to my crotch—“all I want to do right now is jump your lovely bones.”

I chuckle as she slides her hands along my biceps.

“Lovely bones?”

She begins to squeeze my muscles as her hands continue to

glide up and down my arms.

“Yes. Your lovely, gorgeous, manly, huge… bones.”

I throw my head back and laugh as she hops onto my desk,

fanning herself with her hands.

“Actually, I have no bones there.”

“Bones or no bones, I still wanna jump it.”

I step between her legs and trace her cleavage with my

fingers.

“I take it that means you enjoyed last night.”

“Enjoyed would be an understatement.”

“Ahh… So no more doubts?”

“None… Zip… Zero… Nada.”

“Good.”

I lean in and trail soft kisses across her neck. She gasps,

allowing her head to fall back. Her skin is soft and silky, and her fragrant

scent tickles my senses.

“I thought about you all night,” I whisper.

Between heavy breaths, she giggles.

“Really?”

“Mm-hmm.”

I continue along her shoulder and across her sternum.

“What about me?”

I keep my voice at a whisper to prevent the boys from

hearing too much. “How wet you were….”

“Mm-hmm.”

“And tight….”

“Mmm….”

“The sounds you made….” She moans louder as my lips move

across her cleavage. I place my lips on hers and issue a warning. “Shh.”

“Is that all?”

“Casey, I couldn’t sleep all night from wanting you.”

She slides her fingers up and down my erection with a smile.

The only thing I can think of is ripping her clothes off and claiming her once

again.

“I had quite a few dreams about you and this anaconda of

yours.”

“That’s what happens when a man gives you three mind-blowing

orgasms.”

She shivers again and grabs my shoulders.

“Four, if you count the one in my sleep.”

I stop kissing and look down at her in curiosity. “You came

in your sleep?”

“Mm-hmm.”

“I don’t know if I should be proud or upset.”

“Why?”

“Because I don’t want you coming without me.”

She slides her finger across my chest and gazes up at me

innocently.

“Technically, you were there, and I can’t

control what happens in my sleep.”

“I suppose.”

I fall into my chair and watch as she crosses her legs. Why

must she wear such revealing clothes? No one should see her body but me.

She rolls her eyes and scoffs in annoyance.

“What?”

“I see you looking at my dress,” she replies. “It’s the

beginning of summer, and it’s hotter than the devil’s balls outside. You’re

lucky I didn’t show up naked.”

“I’m lucky? Try it and see what happens.”

“What are you gonna do, Sheriff? Arrest me?”

“I could… but that would be no fun.”

“Fun… That reminds me of why I’m here. I’m on my way to

Billings, but I stopped by to tell you that I have an afternoon shift today, so

I’m free tonight.”

“And what do you want to do tonight?”

“I was thinking a whole lot of what we did last night, but

in a bed… completely naked.”

“That can be arranged.”

“Perfect.”

She hops off the desk and kisses my cheek, then turns to

leave.

“Wait,” I stop her. “I have something for you.”

She slides back onto the desk and watches me expectantly. I

hand her the box and wait as she opens it. She furrows her brows and looks from

the box to me and back.

“You got me an iPhone?”

“Yeah. Just like mine.”

“Why?”

“What do you mean ‘why’? Do I need a reason to get you

something?”

“I don’t need a phone.”

“I know that. I added you to my plan so you can get rid of

the other one.”

Her expression changes to one of disbelief. “You did what?”

“I added you to my plan.”

Her features relax, and her face becomes blank. I can’t tell

what she’s thinking or how she’s feeling.

“Huh.”

She slides off the desk, mumbles a “thank you” and heads for

the door.

“Why are you going to Billings?” I ask.

“A little retail therapy. I won’t be long.”

“Shopping? Here.”

Before I can even reach for my wallet, she raises her hand

to stop me.

“Don’t.”

“Casey—”

“Just don’t, okay? I’ll see you later.”

What is with her and accepting gifts from me?

“Okay. See you later.” She walks off, and I grab my phone. “Charlie,

take over. I have to go Billings.”

“Sure thing, boss.”
